Sutton++ for Ridley?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Sutton++ for Ridley?

Postby hoos89 » Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:49 am

Team 2 in sig, 4-1 but 22 ppg behind 1st.

Is the below a fair offer to make to a non-contending owner for Ridley?

2013 Champion, 2012 Runner-Up

Team 2: 12 Team PPR - 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 R/W/T, 23 man rosters, est. 2016

I would think the offer could get it done for a non-contending team.

That'd be a VERY attractive offer I would think. As a Ridley owner (on a currently 3-7 team) that would be more than tempting.

I guess just to play devil's advocate: Do you even need to start with including the 1st rounder?
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Justin Shorter
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023 :cry: , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: All my picks except 3rd rounder

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt. :lol:

I think it's a fair offer, and I'd do it to acquire Ridley if I were you. Not sure it gets accepted, however. Rebuilding teams need to hit home runs when they're dealing their few stud players, and I'm not sure I'd call this a home run return.

Yeah he already turned down Sutton + 1st + Wentz + MVS

I'm not sure Ridley is in bona fide stud territory yet but this is about 3 firsts of value for him, which is quite a nice return and includes all the things I want as a rebuilding owner: injuries, youth, upside, WRs, picks. It's not an auto accept, but I'm not trying to put together an auto accept offer.

??? What??? Sutton and Ridley were valued similarly coming into the season. Sutton will be the same player when he comes back and Slayton seems to be on his way to being the top guy in new york add in a 1st. If you're a non competing team and you don't take this for Ridley I think that's crazy.

We're not in the offseason anymore. Sutton blew out his ACL and Ridley is balling. Some places have Ridley as a top 5 Dynasty WR right now. If I'm in rebuild mode I'm not moving Ridley for Sutton coming off a major injury, a late 1st (aka big question mark) and while Slayton does look to have upside I'm not sold on him, but admittedly that's a personal opinion. I don't think it would be an awful return in a rebuild, just not one that I'd be super excited about.

I'm not ready to put him at WR5 yet. He's not really that much younger than far more proven dynasty WRs in MT, Nuk, Adams and Hill (he's only like 9 months younger than Hill, for instance), we've seen a full year of high level production from Godwin (who is also over a year younger), and DK has produced more consistently this season and is 3 years younger and tied to Russ. Ridley's WR7 for me.

I completely understand preferring Ridley to Sutton because of Suttons injury at this point. That being said his production has come against some of the worst pass defense teams in the league. Top 5 WRs don't have 0/5 games. He's trending in a JuJu direction where a big reason he was so successful was because there was an elite WR playing across from him. I think he's a good WR sure, but when you account for all aspects of this trade I think this is a trade that you regret rather quickly. Next years class looks rather deep and Slayton is really developing into a solid WR as well.

Unless you know you're favored to win it all or this trade puts you over the top I think it's a bad trade. My personal opinion of course, we'll have to see. If I'm gonna give this much up for a young WR I'd much rather have DK though.

Metcalf is on a contender, and I think his value is higher than this package now. Also Julio has missed two games, including last week's game where Ridley went 8/136 and the Chicago game where he went 5/110 (and 7 yards rushing). Chicago is #10 in passing yards allowed. Carolina is #4.

Also I don't think Julio has been drawing the level of coverage this season that AB did in 2018.
