Lamar Jackson + JT for Dak + Saquon?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Lamar Jackson + JT for Dak + Saquon?

Postby sammyz » Tue Sep 15, 2020 8:37 am

It's for a .5ppr 1 qb keeper league I have. It's a 4 keeper salary cap league. For next year Lamar is $17, JT is $38. Saquon is $71 and Dak is $16.

Other RBS are Sanders, Dobbins, Boston Scott, and Rojo

It feels slightly lateral but much better salaries, is this nuts? I think Taylor could be a top 5 guy with Mack out of the way
QBs: Dak Prescott, Teddy Bridgewater, Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston, Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton
RBS: CMC, Miles Sanders, Gurley, JK Dobbins, AJ Dillon, Lamical Perine, Ito Smith
WRS: Godwin, DJ Moore, Juju, Keenan Allen, Diggs, McLaurin, Dionte Johnson, Jalen Reagor, Bryan Edwards, Brandon Aiyuk, Tim Patrick
TEs: Mark Andrews, TJ Hockenson, Irv Smith
DEF:Miami

In a 1 QB league, I would take Prescott and Barkley.

Did you note the cap $ differences?

What would you do with the added cap space? If you are just gaining cap space but aren't going to spend it, then the cap savings is irrelevant and I would prefer Barkley.

If you have a subsequent move that involves the use of the newfound cap space, that would factor into the decision.

How much cap space do you have?

Yeah Saquon at 36% of your budget in a 4 keeper league doesn't seem like a great value to me, and Dak's contract is also expensive. Can you keep the player indefinitely at the initial contract value? If so then I'd probably do it...Lamar at 8.5% for the foreseeable future is a great value. Contracts like that win these kind of leagues.

I'd take Taylor and the extra 17% of cap. Dak and Barkley don't seem that good of cap values tbh

If I take the trade, my projected keepers for next year would be Lamar $17, Miles Sanders $22, Taylor $38 and Dobbins $17. I'd have over 50% of the budget to spend on WRs with my RBs and qb sorted. No question I like it better for next year, the question is more about the rest of this year if I make the move

I don't think Jackson + JT is going to end up being that much worse than Dak + Barkley this season. With Mack out for the year, JT arguably projects as an RB1 RoS, and Jackson outscored QB2 by 100 points last year. Well worth the risk this season for the contract upside going forward.
