Which UDFA?

Postby FiremanEd » Sat Sep 12, 2020 6:42 am

Lots of the pessimism about James Robinson comes from him being a UDFA. I’m looking to get out at 2nd round value, and as another UDFA, wonder how people view Robinson vs Preston Williams.

Preston as a rookie was on pace for 64/ 856/ 6. Pretty good numbers and I like the size/speed combo. I believe he was mainly udfa for character concerns, which haven't popped back up yet so I much prefer the actual talent he has shown

James Robinson has the starting gig by default after Jax cut LF (locker room cancer), and put Armstead and Ozigbo on IR. He was an FCS player with average athleticism. Add that to the fact that he's playing for a tanking Jax with a bad OL... I don't see him being a lasting player in the league

Williams looked very solid as a rookie and has an easy depth chart. I would much rather roster him.

Robinson seems to be a guy who has a job lol. Idk I really don't see anything special with him
Williams I thought looked pretty good last year, I'd take williams

I take Williams easily. Robinson could eeeeeaaaaaasily be replaced in a game or two whereas Preston seems so have a secure role and has flashed.

I'm leaning Robinson simply because rb's are harder to come by. Also if he can / does produce then he will continue to get a ton of work all year long. Williams played well, but he can be replaced much easier.

I will say this... both of these guys got a lot of love as UDFA from some of my favorite dynasty analysts. I definitely remember Preston being hyped in April/May of 2019 and saw a lot of love on Robinson in the same months of this year. Preston surprised us with his opportunity and usage last year before getting hurt and it seems like Robinson is getting a crack at the same type of opportunity.

Thinking long term - I would bet on Preston Williams. We've seen him do it. He was on pace for a top 3/4 rookie WR season last year before getting hurt.

If I was looking at a potential short term value explosion and felt like gambling - I might pursue Robinson and then be ready to flip him for even more if he starts out hot.
