Draft advice at the 2.01 (12 team superflex)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Draft advice at the 2.01 (12 team superflex)

Postby Eight7Seven » Sun Aug 23, 2020 7:05 pm

TLDR: Would you consider it a reach to select Hayden Hurst with the 2.01 with the second team in my signature?

Long Version: I've won the last two championship in this league and am excited to try and perform the first three-peat in my fantasy career.

A trade I felt I couldn't refuse fell in my lap, which required me to trade my QB3 (Drew Lock). This left me with only two quarterbacks and I traded Hockenson and a third round pick to acquire Carr. Leaving me with a hole at TE.

Hayden Hurst is the best free agent TE in our draft pool, but I don't want to overdraft him. If I don't take Hurst with the 2.01 and he gets taken before I'm back up with the 2.07 there are other veteran options who might fall to me at the 4.01. These being Ian Thomas, Blake Jarwin, Jace Sternberger. I'd like to get a veteran TE to serve as Injury/sickness insurance, rather than draft a rookie prospect, but if all the veterans are gone there is the possibility of selecting Kmet or Trautman.

What do you all think would be the best plan of action? Of course this is all in a vacuum, as it's unknown what will be available when the 2.01 comes on the clock.

I would reassess once otc, but if a TE is all you need for a possible threepeat, I dont see an issue with Hurst there. Again, depending who else is available.

No way am I taking Hurst here at the 2.01. Especially if you have Waller, and especially since it's a SF. Take BPA here easily.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I think I'm going to take BPA and hope he falls to 2.07. I think Hurst is in for a big year, and would really help secure my team in terms of depth. The 2.01 is more valuable this year, than in most drafts.

I love Hurst and at 2.01 has to be good value for him, but, you have Waller and if I were you I would take someone like Dillon then draft Blake Jarwin later on as i think he's gonna have a huge year

Yeah, while it's not a huge reach for Hurst, you just don't need him bad enough with Waller in the mix. Hope he's there at 2.07 and if not, grab a vet later. You can always make an in season move if by chance Waller regresses or gets hurt and isn't helping you?

Postby Eight7Seven » Sat Aug 29, 2020 2:27 pm

So I selected Reagor with my 1.12 and then was on the clock at 2.01 and very undecided.

BPA: Would have been Michael Pittman based off of my board, but I'm stacked at WR (also only one under the position cap).

Need: Would likely have been either Jordan Love or Hurst, but I'm far from sold on Love at QB and you guys talked me down from my fear about TE depth.

So I decided to do something irrational and just took the player I liked the most which was AJ Dillion. I've chosens to pass on him in two drafts due to an adherence to the BPA philosophy, and this was my last draft of the year. It was a reach, but it made me really happy.

Unfortunately (actually not at all) all three of Pittman/Love/Hurst were available for me at 2.07 so I was forced to make an actual decision. I selected Love, hoping I could take a TE veteran at 4.01.

All three of my other veteran tight end targets were there at 4.01, so I took Thomas. I understand most prefer Jarwin, but I've been a Thomas truther for a long time. This draft was all over the place for me, but thank you guys for the advice.
