Hockenson vs. Gronk - TE keeper

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Hockenson vs. Gronk - TE keeper

Postby JayT » Sat Aug 22, 2020 7:55 pm

14 team keeper league - shifting to superflex option this year. We keep 9+2...the 2 being your choice of TE, K or DEF (max one each), then the other 9 can be any. 4 pt passing TDs with full PPR. Start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 superflex, 2 RB/WR/TE flex, 1 K, 1 DEF.

My keepers:
QB - Wilson, Carr
RB - McCaffrey, Chubb
WR - Thomas, Adams, Hopkins, McLaurin, Lockett

At TE, I have Hockenson and Gronk. Who do you favor?

Hockenson. I think Gronk will disappoint.

I love Gronk and he's helped win me a lot of money in dynasty. But he is 31, coming off of a "retirement" and could be done in after this year. I'd go Hock and his upside. Could you possibly deal Gronk for a pick??

Just to drive the point home, Hock easily here. And I like Gronk this year too. But Hockenson.

Assuming what's been reported about Gronk is true, I think he'll have the better fantasy year, and I don't think it will be close. That being said I'm definitely keeping Hockenson here.

Hockenson reminds me a lot of a young Jason Witten, and I believe he can contribute in a big way on every area necessary at the TE position. I think he was primed for an incredible rookie year (which is incredibly rare for a TE) until injuries got in the way, his own & along the offensive line (which caused them to need him more as a blocker).

With your format you're incredibly incentivized to keep a TE annually. Locking in one as talented as TJ for the foreseeable future seems like a can't pass opportunity.
