Tried a zero RB startup. What do you think?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Tried a zero RB startup. What do you think?

Postby mzkp54 » Thu Jul 30, 2020 1:04 pm

Picked from the 2 spot. Made one big trade mid-draft (Sutton, Thielen, 1st for Hill, Dillon, 2nd), and traded my 13th rounder for a 2nd so I have no 1st but 3 ‘21 2nds.

12 team SF TE Prem PPR
My team:
QB- Mahomes, Dak, Mariota
RB- David Johnson, R. Jones, J. White, AJ Dillon, L. Murray, R. Armstead, D. Freeman
WR- Hill, Hopkins, Ridley, Boyd, M. Jones, B. Edwards
TE- Hurst, I. Thomas, Doyle, Trautman

What are the starting requirements? Any way you can post the full draft? Your team looks solid overall with 2 top 5 QBs and very good WRs. If Hurst lives up to half his hype, he will work at TE. I actually don't mind rolling DJ and Rojo out as RBs.
Team 1: 12 team, PPR
1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1Flex

Mahomes, Lawrence

I kind of think having two flex spots on top of the super flex spot devalues QB's a bit and I wouldn't have passed on a stud RB at 1.02. Your team will compete though. Really don't like the trade value either

Interesting build with solid QBs. Zero RB strategy is risky to me, but you should be a playoff team.

I’d prefer to have a 3rd QB and to keep your 1st if going with this strategy. But everything else looks good.

Honestly, I’m not a fan. I would never advocate a zero-RB strategy to begin with, but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to go that way, I’d at least want to build around young stud WRs like Godwin, Moore and/or AJB.

Your top two QBs are great, obviously, but that’s really the only thing I like about this team. It looks like you took Mahomes at 1.02 and Dak at 2.11 and then completely neglected QB for the rest of the draft. (I’m too lazy to download the Sleeper app just to see how the whole thing played out.)

If you’re going to punt RB, I feel like you should be really strong at other positions. Your TEs are all unproven fliers (other than Doyle, who has proven to be not good), and you don’t even have a third starting QB for bye weeks. WR is your strength, but I view all of them as declining assets other than Ridley and Edwards. Would’ve much rather kept Sutton, Theilen and your 1st over Hill. Can’t really comment on trading the 13.02 for a 2nd since I don’t know who was available there. Overall, it’s a solid win-now WR corps, but the rest of your roster is in no position to win now, and you don’t have your 1st next year to bolster your RBs.

This is really a cautionary tale of how zero-RB can backfire and set you back years.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

🦬PRIME🦬
QB: Hurts, Howell
RB: Mixon, Jones, Sanders, Dobbins, Akers, Roschon, Dowdle, Kelley
WR: Nuk, Godwin, Cooper, Lockett, Flowers, Chark, Collins, Hollins, Tillman, Tolbert
TE: Hockenson, Chig, Trautman
Taxi: Willis, Z. White, M. Mims, T. Palmer

Hull Awaits
$450 cap, 60 contract years

QB: Lawrence $5/3, Richardson $5/5, Minshew $1/0, Jones $1/0, Heinicke $1/0, Tyrod $1/0
RB: Achane $4/4, Warren $2/4, Roschon $7/5, Dillon $4/1, Hubbard $2/1, Kelley $1/0
WR: Nuk $78/1, MT $25/1, M. Williams $1/0, JSN $21/5, Reed $4/5, Rice $4/5, M. Wilson $2/5
TE: Thomas $1/0, Hill $1/0, Parham $1/0

I quite like it although you NEED a 3rd starting QB.
TEAM 1
Dynasty PPR 1QB (12 Team League)

TE - Ferguson, Mayer, Knox.
DEF - Bills, Vikings.

Rookie Picks: 1.02, 2.02, 3.02, 4.02 and 5.02.

TEAM 2
Dynasty PPR - SuperFlex and TE Prem. (16 teams)

QB - Prescott, Pickett, Ridder, Mariota, Mullins, Willis.
RB - Walker III, R. White, Montgomery, Singletary, R. Jones, Mack, Hull, Sermon.
WR - Adams, Higgins, Watson, Meyers, Gabe Davis, W. Robinson, Dotson, Raymond, ARob.
TE - McBride, H. Henry, B. Jordan, Bates, B. Hopkins.

Rookie Picks: 2.14 and 3.14.

I’m not going quite as extreme as this, but agree with the overall sentiment. If you’re going 0rb it’s going to be very difficult to contend now, but grabbing the “older” WRs (While they’ll still be studs next year you’re losing a prime year if you don’t contend) And trading your 21 1st Is a win now move. I do think Your team can contend but I doubt it’s one of the favorites (without knowing the teams obviously).

I might be in the minority but with your specific build I would've easily took DJ Moore over D-Hop. Not a fan of the trade either . Nice QBs don't know how Dak fell that far tho

As far as the roster is concerned, I don't mind it. Mahomes and Dak are great building blocks in SF, and I like all of those WRs.

However, whenever you go zero RB I think you need to be prepared to potentially not be super competitive in year 1. I do not like the fact that you don't have your 1st for next year. If this year didn't go well you'd be in line for a top pick, and could easily address your RB there.

If DJ and Rojo can both give you RB2 production I can see you being in the mix for the playoffs this year, but I don't think you have a ton of margin for error.

Not an approach I would have taken, but I think you executed it well. Should be interesting to see how it works out.

I am fine with the roster however you should have collected 1's with a 0 RB not traded them. You now have 7 RB's clogging your roster hoping you get a hit and if you don't score one you don't have a real means of drafting your own RB1. Hopefully a RB falls your way.
