QB dilemma

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

QB dilemma

Postby Jcedwards » Wed Jul 15, 2020 11:23 am

Interested in upgrading my backup QB. Yes I know it is just a backup QB that I shouldn't have to use outside of the bye, since I have Mahomes, but I want to have a good backup just in case. I won the league last year, so in the event that I have to use them for an extended period of time, can I count on any of these to lead me to a title again?

Carr
Winston (obviously won't help this year, unless Brees gets hurts)
Minshew

Carr and Minshew are in the bottom of starting QBs in the league. Carr may have a short lease, while Minshew will have a long lease, but the Jags will be awful. Mariota is on the wire, so I can look to pick him up later (although I don't know if I should roster 5 QBs and I'm not ready to drop Winston just yet). Should I just roll with what I have, or would you try and trade for any of these? All these are options that shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to acquire and ones that should be an upgrade over Carr.

Cousins
Jimmy G
Big Ben
Goff

I'm personally not paying anything to upgrade a guy that's going to play one week out of the year. I'd just roll with Carr. Worst case scenario, IF Mahomes is injured long term, I'd rather pay more for a stud than roll with one of those backups.

I would also roll with Carr as your backup, you are in good shape with Mahomes.

Appreciate the input. Maybe with my stacked lineup as it is, I should just sit back and see about making another championship run instead of trying to make somewhat lateral trades. I really like my team, but was just looking to improve in a few areas (backup QB and TE). I love my TE group, but as of right now, all 3 have the same bye week.

I think you're fine as well. But if you really wanted to upgrade, the only player I'd be willing to move would be Diontae Johnson (or someone with less value, obviously). I wouldn't move any of your studs or other valuable pieces to upgrade a position that isn't very valuable.

I think that your fine, but you could dangle Johnson right now, he has all of the hype and you could possible land a quality young qb. He is your 5th wr and you could afford to lose him, but I think I'm rolling with Carr right now.

Ironically enough, a guy has inquired on Johnson for Tannehill. Or at least a package revolving around that (because he wants a QB back). Would Tanny be a QB that you’d target, or how much of an upgrade is he? I’m torn on Carr as he’s been average or worst the last couple of years, but he has some serious weapons this year (not sure if he’s had this stable of weapons since 2016, when we was really good).
