Preston Williams

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Preston Williams

Postby yellowdart2448 » Thu Jul 09, 2020 8:38 pm

I was offered my 4.08 pick for Preston Williams. This is an early Christmas gift right? Williams has upside to be a top 20 WR IMO. Or am I missing something?

Make that trade.
Who would even be available at 4.08?

In IDPs give me the pick, but I think Preston is grossly overvalued

Still not sure why a UDFA is considered a part of the Dolphins future

He will be their 4th passing option in a year behind Parker, one of the 2021 round 1 or 2 WRs and Gesicki

It was still two picks until my turn but off the top of my head... Van Jefferson WR devin-duvernay WR lamical-perine RB eno-Benjamin RB. Only Young Simmons Queen and Murray have been taken on IDP but I can just take what’s left in round 5.

Give me Van, Willie Gay and Logan Wilson over Preston.
Maybe Jeremy Chinn too depending on IDP scoring and possibly Duvernay
The others I would take Preston over

Appreciate the feedback but I think you would be in the minority with thinking Williams has zero upside.

His upside to me is a spotty WR3 for one year
I am just giving advice but looking a year ahead do you see the likelihood (certainty) the Dolphins take a WR with one of their 4 picks in the first two rounds next year? Pretty much every mock has it

In addition to the 2nd round TE and 1st round WR who just got an extension that they already have, and the hit rates on UDFA WRs are next to nothing. I don't see why a slow WR coming off an ACL with drop issues on a team in total rebuild nearly certain to take a WR next year is the one to break the mold

Gay and Wilson are going to be anchors at the centers of their defenses and Van is headed to a pass friendly system that features slot WRs with 2nd round capital

I would gamble on Williams for that price. I'm not super high on him, but this is a nice price in my opinion. He showed he can play.

Preston Williams was given a potential 1st or 2nd round grade by analysts pre NFL combine but they pulled his invitation because he was charged with domestic abuse. The big knock on his game in College was inconsistency. Williams is worth every bit of a late 2nd much less a 4th.

Getting tired of saying this on every Preston Williams thread but here goes again:

Tyreek Hill admitted to choking a pregnant woman--a felony and an egregious one at that. He got drafted. I watched Joe Mixon punch a girl in the face with my own two eyeballs and you can too right now. He went in the 2nd round. Jeffrey Simmons was barred from the combine in the same draft as Preston Williams for pummelling a woman on the ground, also on video. And then he tore his ACL *before* the draft. Simmons went in round 1. Preston Williams received a misdemeanor harassment charge from campus police (the domestic abuse charge was dropped). Not only did he not get kicked out of school but he didn't even get kicked off the football team. It happened at Colorado State and then he played at Colorado State. No one drafted him with 254 draft picks in 2019.

Maybe he goes in the 6th or 7th round without a charge (where WRs selected also have an awful hit rate), but don't act like he is AJ Brown or DK Metcalf except with off field issues. He ain't even Darius Slayton

He went undrafted because he is slow, has bad hands and isn't very explosive

1. The NFL stated he wasn't allowed to run on the field at the combine because of his off field issues but they allowed him to attend the event. That is a fact anything after that is something you personally inferred from events. The exception was his harassment after the restraining order of contacting the woman in question not the act itself. One being consider a "heat of the moment" mistake the other a "deliberate and willful" act he knew full well was wrong but repeatedly did over a long period.

2.His 40 time has him sitting next to N'keal Harry and Diontae Johnson.

3. Scouting notes "He runs smooth routes and can change gears to beat press or stop on a dime to come back to the football."
"His length gives him a fantastic catch radius and he uses that length to his advantage. Williams understands how to high-point the football and use his body to win contested catch situations."
"He’s a fighter after the catch and shows great effort in manufacturing yards once the ball is in his hands."

4. College Performance? Versus Florida he dominated, playing sidelines, the middle of the field and going over the top for big plays.

5. NFL performance as a rookie he had a 53% catch rate in his 8games, this included 2 very bad games in the 30's and 2 games in the 70's. This isn't great and puts him next to players like Robby Anderson, Mike Williams and Chris Conley.

The end of the day he had a good, not great but short rookie season. He is not and no one is saying he is DK Metcalf or AJ Brown. Saying right now he is worth more than KJ Hamler(ADP 22) or Tyler Johnson(ADP 26)? yes that is exactly what I, personally am saying. That he is irrefutably better than Collin Johnson(ADP 48)? uh yes that is what most everyone is saying. You seem to exaggerate everything others say when it doesn't match your own opinions, Lighten up.

His rookie stats are average. He played the first 8 games then tore his acl. His passing numbers are inflated because they were playing from behind often. His best game here was 5 catches, 9 targets, 72 yards, 2 tds.........but against the NYJ. Is there some potential there, sure. Is he a #1 wr, highly unlikely. With your league settings I'd make it a OTC deal, if there is a top defensive player available I'm taking him, maybe a quality wr / rb slips, then I'm grabbing them. I think he is totally a replaceable player and I would worry about losing him.
