Need Mattison for Cook holdout insurance, who to trade?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Maybe Williams? Mattison's price will likely be sky high now however.

I wouldn't bother. Over reaction. Cook will almost certainly be there week 1 and that's all that matters. It's June. If you want him for injury insurance fine, but it's a bad time to try and trade for him, because the owner will try and fleece you. To me, Mattison is worth the same as he was 3 days ago, I have no worries about Cook missing any game time. I wouldn't overpay for a handcuff. Dalvin has already had an offer made, so he's doing this to try and get them to raise that offer. The likelihood is, Dalvin is extended and you are paying for a guy who will only be relevant if Cook is injured over the next couple of years.

Nobody.

Handcuffs are overrated and Cook won't miss games, will cost him too much money and his Unrestricted FA status, which would affect how much money he would get if he did hit free agency.

i thought the same about Gordon last year, Cook could hold out until like week 11 and still have 2020 count as a season. He only needs to play like 6 games. (This is also wishful thinking as a Mattison owner lol)

Last year was under a different CBA. Things are much different now, and far more punitive on holdouts.

Edelman, Williams, Fuller, Perriman, etc. I’d try one of those guys. I like Mattison long term and Cook does have some injury concerns as well.

Players will fined a mandatory $40,000 per day they miss now. It used to be that teams could waive the fines and the player doesn't lose the money. Now they are getting fined no matter what, team and player can't do anything about it. Cook is only making like $1.3M this year, so after about a month of holding out he would lose his entire salary for the year.

I haven’t read the rules myself, but I think I heard on a podcast that they can waive the fines for a player on a rookie contract (which applies here).

I believe that only applies to Veterans, the language in the CBA suggests that players on their rookie contracts can still hold out without penalty.

"A player playing under a contract signed as a Veteran who fails to report to his club's preseason training camp on time or reports and leaves the club for more than 5 days, cannot have his fines waived by the team upon return and will not earn an accrued season for that season"

But for him, its not really any different than before since he's on his rookie deal. As long as he comes back for 6 games, Min will more than likely waive his fee's (common practice)
