POLL: Godwin / Waller / DJ vs. AJ Brown / Ridley / 2nd

Postby kmbryant09 » Fri Jun 05, 2020 8:52 am

For a rebuilding team, which side do you prefer?

Chris Godwin / Darren Waller / David Johnson

A.J. Brown / Calvin Ridley / 2021 2nd

I feel like the value might be on the Godwin side, but I can't help but feel like this is a great time to trade away Godwin / Waller (and obviously DJ) and a great time to buy relatively low on 2 of my favorite breakout WRs in Brown & Ridley.

Not that many pieces are "old", but I do get 2 years younger from Godwin to Brown and 2.5 years younger from Waller to Ridley.

I also have Engram & Irv Smith as long-term TE options.

Is this worth doing?

If I'm rebuilding, I'd hold onto Godwin and try and sell Waller/DJ separately. I'd rather build around Godwin. Any chance you could switch out OBJ for Godwin, and maybe drop the 2021 2nd from his side? You'd probably need to add another piece onto your side though. I think I might like that better.

Agree that value appears to be on the Godwin side but also agree now may be a great time to sell. Above idea of swapping out Godwin for OBJ would be ideal but maybe not feasible if the other owner is down on OBJ.

Godwin for me. He is the best piece but I would also look to move Waller and Johnson.

Good thoughts here. Value is definitely on the Godwin side imo. Not by a ton, but by enough that I'd want to restructure the deal a bit. If you can pull off a similar deal with OBJ instead of Godwin that would be fantastic. If not I would at least want that 2nd upgraded to a 1st or equivalent young player.

Interesting that the poll results differ from the comments so far.

I appreciate the early thoughts. I did try and pursue OBJ instead of Godwin, but the other owner just isn't interested. He's not an OBJ fan and already owns Chubb & Landry.

I mean if both AJB and Ridley are your guys then it's fine. Maybe losing some value but don't think you'd be royally screwing yourself over or anything. That's the price you pay sometimes to get your guys. Last offseason I traded Kittle for Godwin+ and most people's opinions at the time were disapproving. Didn't take long for that to change though! For me, this is DEFINITELY the Brown / Ridley side.

1) Those suggesting that you keep Godwin and trade Waller and DJ are likely missing it: you won't get much for either. Maybe a 2nd for DJ? Maybe a future 2nd for Waller? Those are the kinds of players that have value on your roster but little trade value.

2) Are we THAT sure that neither Ridley nor Brown will be in the same tier as Godwin in a year or two? I'm not. Heck, they both could be!

3) The only reason that OP is getting both AJB and Ridley back -- or is getting any kind of substantive offer -- is because all three players are involved. The other trade partner gets a young WR and valuable pieces. This is a classic sum-is-greater-than-the-parts deal.

I'd accept this trade easily and VERY quickly.

This was my logic as well. Waller and Johnson have little value to my team long-term (though I like Waller, he's 27 and just likely had his career year).

I think Brown and Ridley are primed for big seasons and could both be considered top12 WR's next year.

Traded Away: Chris Godwin / Darren Waller / David Johnson

Traded For: A.J. Brown / Calvin Ridley / 2021 2nd (projected mid-late)
