Just finished my first SFX startup. How’s it looking/any moves you’d make?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Team 2 in sig.

Half-PPR, picked from the 12th spot but slid around a fair amount. Some of you weighed in at a few junctures over the last few days, which I appreciated. Thanks.

I tried to prioritize value, but I never really felt like a runningback I was at all excited about was in the vicinity of my picks after Taylor, so I feel that position is obviously pretty weak. Gotta pray for Conner relevance and I do hope Harris gets more work moving forward. I could always look to flip a WR or two for a back. My tight ends I’m okay with, not floored but not so bad. QB is obviously the strength. Not sure if I should stand pat or explore trades right away.

Your biggest weakness is obviously RB. I’d either target some guys that you could maybe get for cheap, like Guice or Mostert. Or I’d hold and go into the season and see if you are competing. If you are, then make a move.

I like your team overall though, except for Conner.

I love to trade so always exploring but barring something crazy I’d hold tight and see how the season plays out. Everything had to break your way to compete this year imo. Fortunately, you’re set for QB which is priority 1 in a SF for me. I’d hold them all, and hope you can deal for a position of strength if your rookies look good.

Yeah, that's kinda my first thought -- if I've got three WRs hitting and Taylor's looking sharp, I'll go shopping.

Eason's gonna be an interesting piece for me... I don't really need him, but you gotta hope he gets the job at some point, and his value will shoot up. Theoretically. Gotta be patient, I suppose.

I like your build overall and as you mentioned, RB is your weakest area. I would probably hold for now and see how the season kicks off or what offers come. Conner could bounce back or maybe a deal comes along you like.

Solid team minus RBs, but you know that. Great to get QBs off the bat. On ours my biggest regret was not going for many. One guy was smart and realized the league didn’t value them because we weren’t used to SF and he hoarded then. His team is now quite loaded to say the least after people caved on trades.

QB: Prescott, Murray, Tagovailoa, Eason
solid QBs should allow you to be a contender for a while.

HB: Taylor, Conner, Mack, Harris
Yikes. not a fan of conner. Harris I like this year, but I think his upside is capped. Definately going to be hard to contend if this is your RB group. I'd look to acquire Gurley, Gordon, Howard, DJ, or Ingram.

WR: Godwin, Beckham Jr., Reagor, Williams, Edwards, Miller, Watkins, Campbell
I like it. I'd sell OBJ if you can during the season (assuming you aren't in contention) when he recovers value.

TE: Gesicki, Ebron
Fine

Future Picks: All
Excelent, don't trade your 2021 first... yet

Overall, not sure you have the juice to get the championship. Looks more like a middle of the road team. I'd try to move Conner now or in the preseason when an injury pops up. The good news is that your QB and WRs look solid which is important for long term success

I like this team a lot - It's pretty balanced, love the QB's. Not mad about the Conner pick, he's young, he's good, not much competition this year and who knows about next year and beyond, could be a starter for another team and still valuable. If the year starts off good, could contend, if not, maybe then can move him? It's not over the top, but competitive (if that's your plan), + everyone young enough to continue to both compete and strategically build. Trying to find something I don't like about it, I can't - good luck with the season.

Thanks all! Yeah, I figured the Conner scoop would be controversial, but I got him at I think the end of the 8th? Maybe there was a better option but it was pretty damn thin. I’m of the mindset that his value is likely to recover a little bit, even if only just enough to flip. Maybe I’m wrong and I bust out on that one but I was willing to chance it there. Mostly just mad I got sniped on McFarland later by one pick — really wanted that insurance.

Interesting story above about how a guy hoarded QBs in a startup and is now stacked after trades. That’s the dream! This is my first superflex team but I understand why they’re so valued in the format, so I tried to scoop falling value when my league was undervaluing Dak and Tua.

Think the general prognosis you guys are giving of “nice foundation, middle of the pack, might contend if everything breaks right” seems appropriate to me. I’ll try to be patient and hold without buying a runningback prematurely.

Looks like a strong team. I would have expected all of Dak, Murray, Taylor, and Godwin to be off the board by the time your 3rd pick came up so the fact that you scored all 4 is a win.

Likewise with OBJ who I would have expected to be long gone by the time your 5th pick came up.

The way I see it you have 4 guys that typically go in the first 2 rounds of SF, and 5 guys that typically go in the first 3 rounds, all without trading any 2021 picks away.

^Yeah I got lucky with Dak and OBJ. They’re all big NFL fans but not many are dynasty enthusiasts, so there’s a lot of skepticism about OBJ, which I get to a degree but like, Calvin Ridley went before him. Got too silly, had to move up to 4.5 and grab him. Dak/Taylor at 3.12 was probably just them some owners undervaluing SFX. Taylor was the absolute LAST runningback available that I would’ve felt at all comfortable with as an immediate starter at RB1 so that part made enough sense.

Luckily, I’d moved out of 1.12 initially... traded back up to get Murray in the mid-early 2nd, but spent less than I’d gained by moving back. Used the excess ammo to move for OBJ.

Anyone on my team you'd drop for Chase Edmonds? A guy ended up overdrafting via trades and dropped him.
