Trade Backstab

For Team 2 in my sig.

A few days ago I had the 1.03, 1.04 and another owner (rebuilding) had the 1.01, 1.02 and 1.06. Talking to him he seemed more interested in the QBs, WRs than the RBs. I asked what it would take to move up to 1.02 for CEH.

He sent me an offer of the 1.02 for the 1.03 and 2.01 saying “I’ll go with Burrow with the first pick

I declined and countered with 1.02 for 1.03 and 2, 2023 2nds with the comment “this is assuming you’re locked in on Burrow with the 1.01” He accepted my trade offer. So I assumed we were good.

A few days later he comes back and sends a trade offer of 1.01 and 2023 2nd for 1.02 and 1.04, saying “I’m getting a ton of insane offers for the 1.01 if you want CEH this is the deal, I’m not taking counters”

I declined. He never traded the pick (or had any good offers best I could determine) Draft is today and everything I’m hearing says he is going to take CEH at the 1.01 anyway.

Am I an idiot who got played? Or did he go back on his word? What’s the general expectation in situations like this?

Would it be crazy for me to post screen shots on the message board of him saying he’s taking Burrow at 1 and me sending the other offer saying it’s assuming he takes Burrow at 1?

You’ve got a ton of talent, just sit back and draft a couple of studs at 3 and 4.

Was that a formal or verbal accept? I got screwed last year on a verbal accept. Granted the deal would have ended poorly for me so blessing in disguise. But the prevailing thought from other owners was you don’t have a deal unless formally accepted. Not that I agree with that sentiment but is what it is.

Formally accepted the trade. I have the 1.02 now.

Couple options that it could be.
Option A) Someone may have their eye on someone and change their mind before the draft and they have every right since they own that draft choice.
Option B) He played you from the beginning.

I don't know the owners intention nor would anyone besides that owner, but regardless nothing you can do about it.

This sums it up pretty well. At this point, who cares. Once he has your pick he has every right to take who ever he sees fit regardless of what he told you. Now you know his word can’t be trusted for future trades

I mean it’s a dick move but anything can happen. I would never make a deal based on someone’s word on who they’ll take in front of me, circumstances can change quickly. No one said lying is against the rules in fantasy football, but now you know not to trust them at all.

Tough one here, but the owner may have changed his mind as the draft got closer. If you are set on a certain player, you should always just hold the 1.01 so this cant happen. Maybe he is playing everyone else trying to get a massive offer and will still go Burrow. Is what it is now though.

The deal is done when formally accepted. I wouldn't let it be known who you are targeting until you make the pick. This will help prevent this from happening. All's fair in love and war... and fantasy football.

Well now you know he isn't to be trusted. Not much you can do. You can let other people know that he can't be trusted but that's all there is. Maybe your commish would reverse the trade, but conditional trades like this open up a huge can of worms.

In Superflex if he takes CEH at 1.01 that leaves YOU with Burrow which, in my estimation, is a huge win. I agree it sucks that he backed out on his word from a moral standpoint, but from a fantasy football standpoint I don't think you can lose here

You gave up the info he wanted.

I actually have the 1.1 & 1.6 in a SuperFlex. I have tried to trade back w everyone bc I want CEH. Nobody wants to trade up & picks 2,3,4 have basically told me they are not interested in Burrow- So makes me think I might get CEH & then Tua might be there @6. If not I have my top 4 non-qbs. So basically I learned some info trying to trade down.
What he did is a little weak but maybe he changed his mind too...... good luck

People change there mind all the time, I’d draft bpa and try not to let it bother me, but remember it next time you negotiate with him😀

Sucks for you but that dude plays cut throat I guess. Nothing you can do. You really shouldn't have made the deal on a verbal agreement. You will still be okay though.
