D. Waller Value?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

D. Waller Value?

Postby kmbryant09 » Sun Apr 05, 2020 2:06 pm

For a rebuilding team, what's a good value in return for Darren Waller?

I have E. Engram, D. Waller, and I. Smith Jr. and looking to cash-in on Waller's production before the Raiders draft a WR (or two) in a few weeks.

Been talking with an owner who has picks 2.2 / 2.3 / 2.6 / 2.7 / 2.10 (10-team league, so that's picks 12 / 13 / 16 / 17 / 20).

Is Waller & 3.08 for 2.3 & 2.7 a fair deal?

Thanks!
10-team/.5 PPR/5 Pts per Passing TD. Start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2FLEX (rb/wr/te)
QB: J. Hurts, K. Murray
RB: Bi. Robinson, D. Henry, D. Achane, , J. Cook, Z. Charbonnet, T. Chandler, R. Johnson, K. Mitchell, J.K. Dobbins, T. Allgeier, J. McLaughlin, S. Tucker, T. Bigsby
WR: G. Wilson, B. Aiyuk, J. Waddle, T. Higgins,, Z. Flowers, Di. Johnson, K. Toney, A. Iosivas
TE: K. Pitts, E. Engram, C. Okonkwo, G. Dulcich

Late 1st would be a really awesome return but an early 2nd or two 2nds would be solid. If the Raiders add more options, Waller will probably regress.

That’s a solid return in non premium. Would it be nice to get a mid-1st? Sure, but I don’t see it happening. But that team is pretty solid....especially with 1.04 and 1.05. Not sure why you’d be rebuilding.

I think Waller for 2.02 straight up would be fair, but I'd open with 2.02 + 2.07.

I value him in the Late first/early 2nd range, and if I had any depth behind him at TE I'd take the pick. Just don't have confidence in him long term, and he's older than most people think.

He turns 28 in September. Some TEs age well, some don't. Not saying he's old right now, but for a guy that most had never heard of prior to last season he isn't as young as many would think he is.

I'm a little worried about Waller. He didn't have the touchdowns and the Raiders are almost guaranteed to add a top WR and another one in the later rounds. Don't think there is anyway he gets the volume he did last year

I would ask for 2.02&2.07. The past couple of years has shown a te come off the waiver wire and play well (Waller-19', Burton-18') so I think you have a chance at replacing his production. I don't see your team as rebuilding, specially with your available draft capital.

I don’t have the evidence to back this up, but to me it feels like they age very well as long as thy stay healthy, but they break down taking bigger hits than wide receivers consistently. I’d worry more about usage/wear and tear than age, so I think Waller I wouldn’t consider old at all. My worry with Waller is more about renfrow taking the slot receptions (Waller was basically a slot receiver last year) and better wide receivers getting drafted to take some targets.

I just moved Waller, but I will say, as a Raiders fan they will add a WR. While this will decrease his targets, it may help his TD's. Defenses really focused on shutting down Waller in the red zone.

This is not true. I watched all 16 Raiders games last year. Just looking up the stats, too, right now, to back it up, Waller had a 90 percent snap share with 15 percent of that coming from the slot. Now when they passed, his route participation was 76 percent, so he didn't stay in to pass block much, but he was certainly out there on the line run blocking a lot.

Apologies very bad wording on my part. I know he played the TE position, I meant more that they used him in the passing game in place of what a slot receiver would do on teams and I’d worry about his targets more next year than I would worry about his age.
