The Bridesmaid

Postby Pullo Vision » Sat Apr 04, 2020 1:23 pm

Imagine for the moment you're a perennial contender in a 12 team PPR. Every year of the league's 8 year existence, you've made the playoffs. But, you have only one title to show for it. In this league, stud WRs are hard to buy. Starting requirements- QB, 1 RB, 3 WR, TE, R/W/T flex, R/T flex. This is your current roster-
Big Ben
Aaron Jones, Ingram
Julio, Keenan, Juju, Kirk
Kelce
Bench- Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, T Coleman/Breida/McKinnon, Gallup, Chark, Ross, Irv Smith, 1.8, 1.9

You are presented a trade to turn that into this-
Big Ben
Carson, Ingram
Hopkins, Julio, Keenan, Kirk
Kelce
Bench- Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, T Coleman/Breida/McKinnon, Gallup, Ross, Irv Smith, 1.8

Do you pull the trigger?
League #1- 14 tm ppr, 1Q, 2R, 3W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1K
1 DT, 2 DE, 2 LB, 1 CB, 1 S, 1 flex

League #2- 12 team PPR, 1Q, 1R, 2W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1 W/R/T, 1 Def

League #3- 12 tm PPR, 1Q, 0R (yes, ZERO RB) 3W, 1T, 2 R/W/T flex, 1 Def

So you gave:

Aaron Jones
JuJu
D.J. Chark
1.09

and you received:

Carson
Hopkins

Is that the trade you are asking about? If so, I would much rather keep what you had. Also, it's a lot easier to process if you just lay the trade out rather than a before and after team lol.

Lol, trade hasn't been done yet. I'm trying to look at this from the other team's angle, especially with constantly being good but not good enough. And yes, McCafsteez, that's the offer I'm considering. I'm basically trying to re-set my roster, cash out on Hopkins, and see if that studly WR corps would be appealing enough to do it. Hopkins for juju+Chark+1.9+2021 1st doesn't appeal to me enough.

Wait if you are the one selling Hopkins in the trade offer, I would 100% accept JuJu + Chark + 1.9 + 2021 1st. That package holds way more value in my opinion.

You're giving up Hopkins?? You should be tripping over yourself to get to a computer quickly enough to accept that offer man. Don't mess this one up. That's a really nice haul.

This is one of the more confusing trade questions I've seen.

Reading your post you are giving up an absolute ton to get Hopkins. I don't love chark, or Jones, but that's a lot.

Selling juju way too low and I also am not paying up for Carson. Hip injuries are no joke.

You feel like a contender with Carson and Ingram as your only startable RBs? Sounds like another 5th-6th place finish is in the cards.

Lol, judging by other answers, seems you weren't the only one confused. I wasn't interested in hearing input on the trade for my team. I already know what I think. I was trying to examine this from the other team's perspective. He's made the playoffs every year, but he's built a strong WR corps and has done very little to address his RBs.

I don't understand his thought process at all and he doesn't really explain why he rejects trades, so I can't get a read on his profess. Was hoping someone here could understand why someone would make a perennial playoff contender but not do anything to address a glaring weakness in RB2. He's been rolling with garbage there for years while he has WR value on the bench each week he can't start.

Going from Jones to Carson doesn't solve this problem, in fact I would say he would be down grading his RBs by making this trade. I can take a guess at his reason for rejecting this. Making the playoffs is still fun, and if he has made the playoffs every year and won the Ship once, then he is just using the draft to build his team and probably enjoys it. I doubt he has a secret process, he probably just looks at the trade, analysis value and decides. Value is value, and I don't think this trade puts him over the top by any stretch.

Thanks, Rusty. I agree the Jones to Carson downgrade doesn't help (he'd upgrade the floor but downgrade the ceiling, with an added injury issue), but I figured it was more than offset by upgrading from juju to Hopkins. Not something I'd do, but in a league where stud WRs have amplified values and for a team that seems to value WRs way more than RBs, seems it'd be something they'd consider.

For what it's worth, I didn't offer this. I actually started with a different offer with the intent of perhaps making an offer like this Hopkins trade, depending on how discussions went.
