Is my team ready to buy value veterans and compete?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Is my team ready to buy value veterans and compete?

Postby WOATjohn » Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:11 pm

Team 1 in sig:
In 2019 I did a complete overhaul and hit pretty well on some youth and I feel like I could possibly compete this year.
I do have the 1.01 and 1.05 which can get two starting RBs to add to my weak RB but my WRs and TEs could be extremely deep this year.

I have had tons of interest in my picks but there aren't many other value young players that I love so I have been hanging tight (I did sell a 1.06 for Juju last month).
Question, should I aim for some veterans at this point? over half of the league has zero 1st rounders so they're willing to pay up at this point.

And I was verbally offered Michael Thomas "if 2 1st were involved, 1.01 being one of them, i'll consider moving MT"

I'd verbally reply with "Would you do 1.01 + 1.11 + 3.03? I'm trying to add a RB at 1.05"

I haven’t negotiated with him but he seems to want the 1.05 too because I told him I needed my early picks for RBs and he told me to use my late picks lol

This would be a nice price for Thomas and you still grab your RB with the 1.05.

Even though the ideas being discussed are excellent prices for Thomas, I don’t think your trade partner let’s him go without both early 1sts. That said, I also feel you wouldn’t be title-worthy if that was the cost for MT. Use your picks to continue to add pieces to your solid build. Offers may come up for each pick separately, but you need a few more solid starters to compete not just one.

Even if you could trade 1.05/1.11 for solid established RB's, I think both your WR group and TE group have question marks... I expect OBJ, Juju, and Engram to have better years but wouldn't count on top seasons from them yet. Engram needs to play more than 10 games in a season, Juju needs that chemistry with Ben and health back, and I'm not sure what OBJ needs. I would say stick with your strategy of RB at 1.01 and see what's there at 1.05 (if top 4 are taylor, swift, dobbins and akers, take Juedy or Lamb). Then see where you can add depth at 1.11, if everything goes according to plan you might end up in the ship without having to ship out any youth.

Note for context: I shipped out chark, ridley, juju, 1.03, and 1.05 for Zeke, Mixon, Henry and 2.06 to go after a ship like you mentioned and now I'm not sure that was the best idea with my question marks still at QB and TE.
