Non-Monetary prize for league winner?

Last year we did a 10tm SuperFlex startup, paid the commish via paypal (dumb, but only a $10 buy-in)
The commish ended up passing away mid-season so obviously no way of paying out to the winner

League wanted to stay together, I took over as commish

League winner asked me if there's anything we can do about some sort of compensation for his year 1 championship?

What do you guys think? Should it be non-monetary?

Extra pick?
Have everyone throw in an extra $5 this year?
Nothing?

Any other ideas?

Giving an extra pick to the champion is counterproductive. The $5 idea seems fine.

Yeah extra 5$ should be fine.

Another idea tho - our league tried out RSO one season but people wanted to give it a test drive before committing to running our league through their site. So instead of a league payout - we had the winner of the league pick out a jersey (via ebay - goal was to keep it between 50-80$) - and then the rest of the league split the cost for the jersey.

the Dude died. I say forget about the money. Being that it was the first season, I don't think it's worth worrying about.
I'd probably do something like incorporate the passed commissioner's name into the league name, or name a traveling gif trophy after him.

I was honestly kinda surprised he asked too. We'd already discussed that there wasn't really anything that could be done due to the circumstances at the conclusion of last season. And he was cool with it. He just threw it out there again; to be fair, I don't think he's adamant about it, just seeing if there's a possibility that he can get some kind of perk

Yep, I see both sides as well.

We as a league have already agreed on raising the buy-in this year - was going to raise it to $20 but I think it'd make sense to raise it to $25 and throw him $50 or something. Not like I have to worry about other payouts; I came in 2nd & my buddy came in 3rd - we're not worried about it
