This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Help with acquiring 2020 picks

Postby nicktahoes » Fri Feb 28, 2020 5:57 pm

I am in a couple leagues where some owners aren't even considering trading 2020 picks especially firsts. I was wondering if anyone has had success acquiring them from owners that are less than willing. Or just general tips outside the norm of offering a "fair trade" or over paying.
Team 1:
PPR--QB, RBx2, WRx3, TE, Superflex, Flex x2
QBs: Lawrence, Stafford, Geno, Hooker, Rush
RBs: Ekeler, Kamara, Achane, Elijah Mitchell, Dillon, Kelley, Moss, Jamaal Williams
WRs: Adams, Hopkins, Waddle, Kirk, JSN, Boyd, OBJ, Hyatt
TEs: Kelce, Hockenson, Taysom, Irv Smith

and then a few minor players and rookie stashed on taxi

My league is the same way. I had big time depth and had to overpay pretty solidly for the 1.01 and 1.03...we will see how it works out.

What did you give up for each trade? I'm trying to acquire the 1.03 from the guy who owns 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, 1.09 and 1.13.

I'm pretty much never going to trade down before the rookie draft unless it's a big overpay. I have had success acquiring picks.

Team 1 in signature (12 team, 1qb, ppr, 1.5 ppr te)
Sent: Hopkins
Received: OBJ, h Henry, & 1.09

Team 2 in signature (12 team, SF, ppr, 1.5 ppr the)
Sent: Darnold
Received: 1.07 & 4.01

Sent 1.10, 2.07, jonnu smith
Received: 1.06

The trade for OBJ I wasn't even looking for, someone just offered out of the blue. The other two trades were long negotiations. Wish I got more for Darnold, but the league doesn't value QBs the way I do.

Ultimately moved in a few trades culminating in the picks: Chubb, Gallup, Guice, Cooks and other random pieces. I have built around backs for years and it has not treated me well. Again, huge overpays and I hope it pays off long term. I was aiming to build around wrs.

Well, don’t wait till the combine to buy this years picks also helps. We are at the point in time it’s going to take an overpay to buy any 1st, let alone a good one. That’s the nature of the beast. You want good prices? Buy them a year early or in season from a competing team. If you are buying once the offseason begins, and more so as it progresses, consider “overpaying” the status quo. They don’t call it a fever for nothing.

x2

I do the opposite. Buy the year before and then get an overpay close to the draft. Don't end up drafting many players but I end up with a much bigger haul.
