Completed Trade, Win or Loss for Team in Sig?

Postby krtbuckeye » Sun Feb 23, 2020 5:10 pm

I usually try to float ideas here before pulling the trigger, but I put Mike Evans on the trade block in hopes of getting a younger option with upside and some sweetener before Godwin diminishes his value/appeal further. I know Evans will only turn 27 this season, but with my other WRs and future pick situation, I felt Evans was the man to move.

The deal was:

Evans/2021 3rd

For

AJB/2021 1st rd pick swap option on a rebuilding team’s 1st

Do you view this as a Win or Loss for the team in sig?

Not a bad return but I like the Evans side better. Evans is still young and in a great situation. Brown is talented but in a less ideal situation.

x2 - gambling on Brown continuing to trend up is worth it with an early 1st coming back. This could be a fantastic trade come this time next off season.

Evans unless I knew for sure it was an early 2021 1st.
Picks are hard to predict. Too easy for a rebuild to turn into a playoff spot if one or two prospects work out.

Yes, that's correct. Assuming my team is a playoff team this upcoming season, and the other owner doesn't pull off some sort of miracle string of trades to become relevant (his team is older and non-competitive, and he has traded away his picks for 2020, so not worried about young guys taking a big leap), this would likely be swapping my late 1st for a top 5.

I'm not too worried about this happening. The other owner has drafted dropped IDPs in the 2nd-3rd rd range each of the last 2 years. He has 1.09, a top 4 2nd (pending lottery results), 2.09 and this is his current roster:

QB: Wilson, Minshew
RB: Gordon, Conner, Dam. Williams, Gore, Lat Murray, Howard, Jaylen Samuels, Shady McCoy, Gus Edwards, Marshawn Lynch, Dar. Williams
WR: Gallup, Thielen, Parker, Tyrell Williams, Larry Fitz, Fuller, John Brown
TE: Rudolph

This owner has not traded well historically either. I traded him my 2020 1st, 2022 1st, Boyd, and Mike Williams for JuJu/different 2021 1st he held (which I have traded since). He immediately turned around the same night and traded Boyd for John Brown straight up because "it gave him John Brown in every league", and gave his own 2020 top 4 1st (pending lottery)/2022 1st/ Mike Williams for Melvin Gordon. This was at our trade deadline in November and it was clear he would have a lottery pick this year.

That roster isn't great but I can't imagine it's a lock to be bottom of the barrel. Several of those pieces could easily return to form (Gordon, Conner, theilen) and a couple could continue their 2019 success (gallup, parker, brown). He also has a top 5 QB and could hit a stud with 1.09.

It's a bit light for me for a guy that does nothing but put up 1k seasons every single year.

This is a trade that will be fully evaluated in 2 / 3 years from now. If AJB grows into a legitimate #1 wr and you land another top player with the pick then it's a great deal for you. I like Evans, but I think Godwin will continue to eat away at his numbers. I don't think either totally won this deal currently or lost it currently, but like I said, look back in 2 years for a true evaluation.
