This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

advice for a team in rebuild

Postby Krissi24 » Mon Feb 10, 2020 1:34 pm

12 team 0,5 ppr

Starting: QB, 2RB, 3WR, TE and 1Flex

My team has just started rebuilding after a couple of years as 3-4th placed and seeing some of my starters getting close to 30

My main guys right now:

QB: Dak and Goff
RB: None (Bryce Love)
WR: AJ Brown, McLauren, DJ Chark, Anthony Miller
TE: Hooper, Hollister, Cook

2020: 3.04 and 4.06
2021: 6 x 1st (all of them expected top 6 picks)

I have been trying to acquire Lamar Jackson as I think that he will keep on putting up big numbers. Also I think he would fit my rebuild pretty good.
2021 1st (top 6) and DJ Chark for Lamar Jackson and 2.11. Is that to much to pay.

Here is two other offers that I have received today:
Give 2 x 2021 1st (top 6) for Miles Sanders
Give 2x 2021 1st (top 6) for 1.03

I would really appreciate you guys comments and advices.

I'd only sell rookie picks early if it's for an elite player in their prime. Hold those '21 1st's until next year. In a rebuild you're looking at (1) or (2) players on your team that will net you the most in return, which looks like AJB. I'd be tossing AJB out there and see what kind of 1 for 2 deals you can net for him given how high his ADP is currently. I'd also be looking to move Hooper for a developmental TE(Hock, Fant, Goedert) + a piece, as Hooper may not even be back with the Falcons next year.

In a 1 QB league, I think your QB's are in good shape with Dak and Goff. Landing Jackson would be big too, but the Chark offer is too steep in my opinion. I would hold off on Jackson and see if his value cools a bit next season. I would want to see more from Sanders before offering 2 top 6 picks for him (even if they are a year out). IF landing one of the top WR's or RB's from this class is a priority, I could live with the 1.03 deal. Long term though, I would hold your picks outside of a great deal. You will be able to load up and continue to build around Brown, McLaurin and Chark come 2021. Trading your picks for younger established players is not a bad way to go, but I think you will get much better value next off season once the next class of rookie hype hits. You may have an opportunity to trade your latest pick in 2021 for multiple 1st's in 2022 when the time comes. Diversifying picks among multiple classes while acquiring more assets is never a bad play either.

In a rebuild I wouldn't be concerned about acquiring a QB. Dak finished as QB2 in most formats last year and is just fine going forward for a rebuilding team. In a rebuild everyone needs to be available for the right price, but the only guys I'd really want to hold are Dak, McLaurin, AJ Brown and possibly Hooper.

I don't mind dealing 2 2021 1sts for 1.03, but no way would I trade my own pick, as I'd want to have the ability to control my own future in a rebuild. Your young guys, along with 4 early/mid firsts in 2021 along with 1.03 this year is a very strong start to a rebuild. Good luck!

As others said, I would hold tight. Cashing in 2021 assets now gets you to mediocrity. Cash in assets when you are ready to compete for the ship. Those 2021 picks will be come so much more valuable in 14 months. Staying patient is hard, but I would stay the course, lets your future assets mature, and be opportunistic with selling your players at peak value throughout the 2020 season.

There is no reason to make any of those deals in a rebuild. Selling 2021 picks prior to 2020 season is giving up value. Those picks will be worth gold in spring of 2021.

I wouldn't make any of those trades. QB should be the least of your worries right now when you have already have two decent options and holes at other important positions. I'm all for trading some of those 2021 picks, but you should be moving them for young players who have proven they can produce. Not a rookie pick or a QB that's not really going to help with your rebuild.

Thanks for all of your comments and advices.
I really appreciate it.

I will stay away from those trades.
If I were to trade 21 picks for young and proven players, who would that be?

I wouldn't make any trades. You have a lot of missing pieces on that team, and a lot of holes. Moving multiple picks for one player, no matter how much of a stud, makes no sense in a multi year rebuild and will only push it back farther. Keep the picks, and take BPA with them. I know it's tempting to move them, and I'm sure a lot of people will be wanting them, but hold tight.

Also, you should be selling Cook. Like today. Get what you can for him.

Good luck.
