Picks or Fournette??

Postby ThatGuyBrian » Tue Jan 28, 2020 2:09 pm

Would it make sense to trade two first round picks for Leonard Fournette? My running back situation is dire and Fournette is probably a better option than what would be available at the 7th pick. Thoughts

I would send
2020 7th overall pick and 2021 1st round pick

I would get
Leonard Fournette

Team:
10 Team 1 point PPR (1.5 PPR for TE)
QB- Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Ben Roethlisberger
RB- Ronald Jones, Rahem Mostert, Royce Freeman, Chris Thompson, Bryce Love, Dare Ogunbowale, Darrel Williams
WR- Juju Smith-Shuster, Calvin Ridley, Courtland Sutton, Terry McLaurin, Darius Slayton, N'Keal Harry, Andy Isabella, Myles Boykin, Kelvin Harmon, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Jalen Hurd
TE- Noah Fant, Jace Sternberger, Dawson Knox, Josh Oliver
K- Justin Tucker
DST- Vikings

2020 Picks- 3rd overall, 7th overall, 9th overall, 10th overall
2021 Picks- 1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round, 4th round, 5th round
Current Win Now!!:
Chester
10 team PPR (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 Kicker, 1 Def/St) 27 man roster limit:

Solid deal for Fournette. You'd be lucky to get a player at that spot that will match his production.

Here is the counter argument to that. My team isn't going to be that great next even with Fournette. That means my first round pick could be a top five pick, possibly the first overall. That could be a player like Travis Etienne. I guess to put names to it, would Fournette be worth (potentially) Cam Akers/Jalen Reagor/Tee Higgins/etc and Travis Etienne?

If you don't think you will make the playoffs, I would not make this deal. Hold your picks and keep building. The value is solid, but that does not always make it a smart deal pending build.

That's good value for Fournette, but he really doesn't help your team, especially long term, you need to be stockpiling assets and not trading 2 for 1's right now. Keep the picks.

The deal is fine in a vacuum. For your team however its horrible. RBs like Fournette are pieces you get to push you over the top. You have a team that needs some rebuilding.

Lets look at the team quickly:

10 Team 1 point PPR (1.5 PPR for TE)

QB- Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Ben Roethlisberger
You have too many QBs here. assuming its a 1QB league you really don't need more than 1 or 2 at the very most.

RB- Ronald Jones, Rahem Mostert, Royce Freeman, Chris Thompson, Bryce Love, Dare Ogunbowale, Darrel Williams
You have big problems here. Your only asset in my mind is Mostert, and he's someone i'd rather trade away now for value, rather than keep him for next year. You need to make investment into RB, but it has to be through the draft. I will say that Love has potential with the Skins due to Guice's injuries. I'd trade Mostert if you can get decent value for him, hold Jones, Royce, and Love. And do whatever you want with the other 3.

WR- Juju Smith-Shuster, Calvin Ridley, Courtland Sutton, Terry McLaurin, Darius Slayton, N'Keal Harry, Andy Isabella, Myles Boykin, Kelvin Harmon, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Jalen Hurd
This is a group of WRs I can get behind and wait. I think Juju bounces back, Ridley and SUtton take another step forward. I'd be fine trading McLaurin if you can get some decent value. and hold Harry, Isabella, Whiteside. The others drop or trade.

TE- Noah Fant, Jace Sternberger, Dawson Knox, Josh Oliver
Good young group, but I have no idea why you have 4 TEs assuming you can start 1. I'm fine holding all 4 of these guys and see what happens.

K- Justin Tucker
DST- Vikings

Overall, you have a good young group at WR and if you hold onto them, I think you have some solid players in 1-3 years. QBs and TEs are fine for a 10 teamer start one. Its your RBs, and you need some shots at RB. I'd rather hold your picks, draft some RBs (or draft BPA, wait for your WRs to boom and sell them), and create a true dynasty team.

I am a believer in trading for value even when rebuilding. I think Fournette is worth more than the picks, so I would make the trade. Nothing says you have to keep him after winning this trade.

Keep the picks. Your team is not good and you are looking at a long, multi-year rebuild. Fournette is already 25, and when you are competitive in two or three years, he will be 27 or 28, which is not great for a RB. I'd keep the picks and take BPA, and keep rebuilding your team.

Good luck.

If the trade was offered to you, it never hurts to see what counter possibilities are available. Maybe you can do #9 instead of #7 for example. Since you still have a few other 2020 picks it is not as if you are leaving the cupboard bare, and in 10 team leagues elite assets have extra value (imho).

Fournette plus a hit or 2 at the other selections could quite feasibly turn this team around a lot faster than anticipated as Fournette is a top 5 upside RB.

So even with the current team situation, I feel this is a value that is potentially too good to pass up on. It may end up being one of those trades you wish you had pulled the trigger on.
