Off-season Moves to Make

Postby Dominus » Thu Jan 23, 2020 7:27 am

Hey everyone,

Long post ahead! Thanks for reading and the advice.

Team in my signature. A few details to highlight:

1. 9 Keepers - not full Dynasty
2. Moving to Superflex in 2020
3. Max 4 QBs on roster this year
4. I have 1.01, 1.03, and 1.04

Inevitably, I'm unable to keep all the players I like and, more frustrating, I can't trade them for any value once we're approaching our draft because no one has room in their keepers. I'm trying to look at trading early to get picks, or, consolidating players/picks to improve a position in the off-season.

Here are the players I think I'd keep if the draft was tomorrow:
L. Jackson, A. Rodgers, D. Jones, A. Kamara, D. Singletary, K. Hunt, D. Adams, C. Godwin, D. Samuel

I have a few trades I'm considering offering, and I'd really appreciate your feedback on them. Do you think any of these improve my keepers? And are they fair offers - or over/under pays? Some of these trades involve the same pieces, so, assume each trade is exclusive for simplicity.

Trade 1 - "Mahomes or Bust"
Give: A. Rodgers, A. Kamara, 1.01
Get: P. Mahomes
Reasoning: This is our first year entering a Superflex league - I'm hoping I can capitalize on the "uncertain" value of QBs right now. If I can manage to snag Mahomes and start rolling with Mahomes + L. Jax, I think that'll set me up for success for years to come. I'm hoping the combination of 1.01(Burrows) + A. Rodgers is enough to make the Mahomes owner budge. Naturally, in a Keeper league, giving multiple pieces lets me keep one additional player as well. I'm also nervous about Rodgers moving forward, so, want to move on from him.

Trade 2 - "Picks for Days"
Give: A. Kamara
Get: M. Sanders + 1.02
Reasoning: I'm high on Sanders and this would leave me with the 1.01 - 1.04. Given how much of a gamble picks can be, the more options I get the better.

Trade 3 - "Kerryon, Kerryon"
Give: D. Singletary + 2.03
Get: K. Johnson
Reasoning: The Kerryon owner is frustrated with his injuries and Detroit in general and really needs more picks to rebuild. I think this is an underpay for his value, but, hoping it's close? Essentially gambling on Kerryon's talent and that he'll overcome his injury issues to become a stud.

Trade 4 - "Mixon it up"
Give: A. Rodgers
Get: J. Mixon
Reasoning: I'm nervous about Rodgers moving forward and would rather get value now. I _think_ this is a reasonable offer? And I need help at RB. Burrows, Jones, and L. Jax would still make me feel ok at QB.
10 Team "Dynasty"(9 keepers), Year #5 (.5PPR)
QB(1), RB(2), WR(2), TE(1), FLEX(1), K, D/ST - Superflex being added in 2020

QB: L. Jackson, A. Rodgers, D. Jones, G. Minshew
RB: A. Kamara, D. Singletary, K. Hunt, R. Penny, A. Mattison
WR: D. Adams, C. Godwin, D. Samuel, M. Williams, N. Harry, D. Slayton, J. Ross III
TE: D. Waller, O.J. Howard

Picks 2020: 1.01, 1.03, 1.04, 2.03, 2.04, 2.10

I don't love any of those trades, especially the first one for Mahomes. Giving up two QB's, plus Kamara is too much for Mahomes, even in a SF.

I think your team is fine. I don't see any reason to make any moves right now. Take Burrow at 1.01 and then draft BPA at 1.03 and 1.04. Your team looks like it should be competitive next year. You could use another RB, but with picks at 1.03 and 1.04 you should be fine there.

I think you are overthinking this to be honest. Sometimes the best move is to just stay put and not make any moves.

Trade 1 - Awful
Trade 2 - That's good value. I'd pull trigger
Trade 3 - Meh
Trade 4 - Sure. QBs slightly devalued in 10 team and you are drafting Burrow at 1.01 so good time to move on from Rodgers. Though would try to get a 2021 2nd added.

Personally if I was in your situation I would keep
QB-L. Jackson, A. Rodgers, D. Jones
RB-A. Kamara, D. Singletary
WR-D. Adams, C. Godwin, D. Samuel
TE-D. Waller
This way you should be set at a decent starting lineup regardless of the week. Then with your picks you would get Burrow, and best available at 1.03 and 1.04 which would be most likely a RB/RB or RB/WR.

IMO the only trade I would consider is trade 4. Trade 4 because you are weak at RB and you are in a good position with L. Jackson, D. Jones, and Burrow at QB but because of SF I think you are giving up a lot of value. But at the end of the day I would fine not making any of those trades and running with your keepers and making mid season moves with a QB needy team.

I do find Trade 2 interesting, but because it is not full dynasty I think I don't pull the trigger just in case Sanders and 1.02 doesn't pan out. I can see myself holding Kamara for this year and at least another year, whereas if Sanders doesn't blowup this year then I am not keeping him next year and you basically gave away Kamara.

But this is just my opinion and it is your team. Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback!

Clearly, I'd be offering way too much in Trade #1 based on everyone's responses so far. Is there an offer for Mahomes that makes sense with my roster/picks? Or, ultimately, would I just be spending too much for not enough?

Is there another QB you'd target with some combination of Rodgers + a pick?

This is very helpful. Because I finished outside the playoffs this year(even with Lamar...), I have trouble evaluating my team. I'm an emotional trader, so, prone to making rash decisions for the thrill of change when my team (or a player) disappointed me.

I'm torn on Waller. He was great this year, but, I'm concerned about his performance if Oakland drafts more receiving weapons. He's also someone I'm considering trying to trade. Keeping Hunt over him was largely based on the assumption that Hunt will end up with another team and potentially be the lead back. I believe in his talent, so, in the right situation could be really valuable.

Also, appreciate the feedback on Trade 2. I'm expecting Kamara to rebound next year, too.

Last year, your league was a 1QB league. This upcoming year, it will be a SF league. That's a big difference. In addition to that, you have three of the top four picks in the rookie draft. Your team will be much better this year.

You also were without Adams who was injured for awhile, and had a couple of rookies in Singletary and Deebo who I expect to only get better. Not to mention Hunt who was suspended for 8 games and looked like the Hunt of old when he returned, plus Harry who was hurt most of the year, plus Ross, etc, etc, etc.

I think trade two makes your team less competitive, because now you will go from starting Kamara down to a worse RB. So while some may feel the value is there, which I don't, it still wouldn't be worth the hit your starting lineup takes when I expect your team to compete. I wouldn't do trade 4 either because Rodgers should be in your starting lineup as well, and it leaves you thin at QB with only Burrow, a rookie, and Jones, who hasn't even played a full season yet, behind Lamar.

Trade 1
Honestly, I think Kamara + 1.01 + Rodgers is about what I would need to sell Mahomes in superflex. I don't know why everyone thinks that's awful. However, seeing as your league is just transitioning to superflex, there's a good chance that QB values aren't as high yet. I'd start with just Kamara + Rodgers and see what the Mahomes owner says.

Trade 2
I think Kamara for 1.02 + Sanders is about fair value, but I'd much rather use Kamara as part of a package to get Mahomes. But if that falls through, and you're really high on Sanders, go for it.

Trade 3
Not an underpay. I think it's an overpay. I don't see much of a difference between Singletary and Kerryon, and I definitely wouldn't add 2.03 on top.

Trade 4
Again, I'd rather use Rodgers as part of a package to get Mahomes. But if that gets shut down, I think Mixon > Rodgers even in superflex, and I'm not even that high on Mixon. You can make the offer, but I don't know if it'll get accepted. Ultimately, I'm trying to sell Rodgers everywhere I own him right now.

1- I like the idea of going after Mahomes. Mahomes + Lamar in SF might just make everyone in your league quit. Honestly I would probably pay this. You keep 9 every year, right? with those picks and the other keepers you have, consolidating now seems like a great move. I'd just start with a lower pick than 1.01.
2 - Don't like it. It's fair value, but with roster spots at a premium, just keep the better player.
3 - I would probably pay that for Kerryon. It's close. EDIT- I wasn't thinking about this being SF and 10 team. I'd say this is a bit rich for Kerryon.
4- I like the idea of getting a stud RB for Rodgers, but would prefer the Mahomes trade. Maybe you can do Daniel Jones in the Mahomes trade instead of Rodgers?
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...
