What’s Tyler Lockett Worth?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

What’s Tyler Lockett Worth?

Postby Easy Breesy » Wed Jan 08, 2020 7:50 pm

I’ve got him in a league it’s 0.5 point ppr with return yardage being counted along with rushing/receiving yardage He was the 3rd overall WR this year in that league. The league is. 16 team 2 QB IDP league. What’s his value?
Early 2020 1st? Mid? Or are there certain players you guys have in his range?

I’ve never played in a league with return yardage points, gotta think in that format he’s worth 2 firsts, no? Just thinking like in the league in my Sig the #3 WR was Nuk, and 2 firsts would be a steal for him

I have him as an early 1st this year (1.02 or 1.03) or equivalent to a mid 2020 1st+2021. I’ve been trying to sell him best I’ve gotten is 1.10 in 2020. Think I might just hold him based on his value.

Easy hold if your being offered the 1.10

Mid 1st for me at minimum factoring in all scoring settings. Seems like he is a big time asset in this league, especially with 16 teams.

In a normal format, I'd value Lockett somewhere in the range between the no. 5 pick and the no. 10 pick. In a return yardage league where he was the no. 3 WR, I'd want a top-3 rookie pick for him, but I also understand why owners wouldn't pay that in a 16-team league where those QBs will likely go early.

If he was the WR3 in your league, he's got to be worth an early 1st. I'd take Burrow over him in a 16 team SF, but everyone else would pretty much be a toss up.

Just playing Devil's advocate here. Perhaps your league mates are scared of the prospect of Lockett not being the primary return guy. A coach can decide not to risk stud skill position players in the return game. In 2017 he had a combined 73 punt and kick returns. That number was 44 in 2018 and 27 in 2019. Weirdly, there were several games with no attempts in either category in 2019. Link: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... ckTy00.htm

That said, agreed with OP that 1.10 is too low.
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Xavier Hutchinson
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023  , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: All my picks except 3rd rounder

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt.

This is some great info Paul.

For OP. Lockett punt return yards per return has dropped every year from 9.5 to 5.1 YR/R this year. That doesn't look great.
For comparison Edelman worst year stats was 7.7 YR/R in 2018 and then NE switched to a different punt returner. That probably also has to do with not wanting Edelman to get hurt as well, but the same would apply for Lockett. I could easily see seattle going with a different returner next year or next couple of years.

1.10 is low, but something a little higher, I would probably consider.

Unless I'm missing something, despite the dropping number of returns and decreasing return yardage he was still WR3 in 2019.
I wouldn't part with him for less than 1.5 firsts given this format/scoring, maybe closer to two random firsts.

Thanks for the feedback guys and you’re right despite the drop in return yardage he was the WR3 overall this year I was hoping for an early 1 or a mid1+

lockett hasn't returned punts since week 10, david moore is doing that at the moment (he's RFA atfer the season).
he also hasn't returned kickoffs either in the 4 games after the match against the 49ers, when he got banged up. he's returned to that role though.

In my 12 team, SF, .5 PPR league he went for Curtis Samuel, 1st (ended up being 1.11), and Guice.

Some seem to be worried that he becomes the #2 option to DK Metcalf. Not sure I completely subscribe to that idea though.
