Full Blown Rebuild, One Year In

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Full Blown Rebuild, One Year In

Postby snaps06 » Thu Jan 02, 2020 3:25 pm

So, for team 1 in my sig, I committed to a full rebuild in December of last year. Here is the list of trades I've made:

1) Julio, 2019 3rd, and 2020 4th for Juju, 2019 2nd, 2020 1st, and 2020 2nd

My picks I acquired turned into Darwin Thompson, and 1.12 and 2.12 (other owner won the league this year)

2) Lamar Miller for 2019 3rd, 2020 2nd, 2020 3rd.

My picks turned into Dexter Williams, and 2020 2.2 and 3.2

3) Keenan Allen and Anthony Miller for Chris Godwin, 2019 1.8 and 2.3, 2020 1st and 3rd

My picks turned into Kyler Murray and Alexander Mattison, and 2020 1.8 (I've since traded the 3rd)

4) Eric Ebron and 2020 4th for Mark Andrews, TJ Yeldon, 2019 2.10, and 2019 5.04

My picks turned into Benny Snell and I traded the 5.04 for a 2021 4th.

5) David Moore for a 2020 4th (turned into 4.2)

6) 5.06 for 2020 5th (turned into 5.2)

7) Isaiah Crowell for 2020 2nd (turned into 2.11)

8) Vance McDonald for a 2021 2nd

9) Delanie Walker and 2020 5th for 2020 4th (traded away in the Andrews deal)

10) Malcolm Brown and the 2020 3rd acquired in the Keenan Allen deal for a 2021 2nd

11) Preston Williams (picked up for $17 from waivers) for a 2021 2nd

Overall net exchange since December of 2018:

Gave: Julio Jones, Keenan Allen, Anthony Miller, Lamar Miller, Malcolm Brown, Preston Williams, Delanie Walker, Isaiah Crowell, Vance McDonald, Eric Ebron, David Moore, 2019 3rd, 2019 5th, two 2020 4ths, and a 2020 5th

Received: Juju, Chris Godwin, Mark Andrews, Kyler Murray, TJ Yeldon, Alexander Mattison, Darwin Thompson, Benny Snell, Dexter Williams, 2020 Picks 1.8, 1.12, 2.2, 2.11, 2.12, 3.2, 4.2, and 5.2, plus three 2021 2nds.

I also have 2020 picks 1.5, 2.5, 2.13 (won via toilet bowl), and 3.5.

What does everyone think of the rebuild so far, and where I'm sitting for 2020 and beyond with team 1?

I like the direction where your team is headed overall. You need serious help at RB but otherwise you are heading in the right direction. A bounce back from JuJu would be huge a really cement you wr core. Nice work overall on the start to your rebuild.

Thanks. The fact my RB core was in shambles is what made me go into the rebuild. I basically tried to punt the position completely this past year. My strategy was to load up on lottery tickets in a deep RB class and hope to get a few hits. With picks 5, 8, 12, 15, 18, 24, 25, 27, 29, and 32 in this draft, I hope I gave myself a shot.

I’ve found That “rebuilding” in year 1 is a great time to do so. No one else wants to do a self evaluation that early on, and mediocre teams think they can Compete and are usually willing to overpay for marginal players during the season.

Just looking at the major pieces you sent out compared to the ones you added I like the direction you’re headed in going forward.

Thanks. And I should probably specify, this is the 5th year of the league, but I'm one year into the rebuild. I had a solid run in years 2 and 3 (2016 and 2017) and came up just short, then started competitively in 2018 but realized about halfway through the season I was setting myself up to be a fringe playoff team for the next few years if I didn't start selling. I went all-in on the rebuild in December of 2018, and now I'm just over a year into it.

I had a couple bad trades where I overpaid to try to win it all in 2016 and 2017 that backfired even though I loved the value at the time. I basically sold three picks that turned into Fournette, Mixon, and Chubb, and acquired Amari Cooper, CJ Anderson, and Dez Bryant...woof. Now it's tough for me to part with any future 1sts haha.

Continuing the rebuild saga...Team 1 fully updated in my sig.

Rookie draft complete so I figured I'd chronicle how my draft went. In a nutshell, I used 11 of the 12 picks I acquired and have completely reshaped my team with only about a handful of players of 25. I went pretty strictly BPA the entire draft and ended up with the following results:

(Pick) Player
(5) Swift
(8) Reagor
(14) Ruggs
(15) Pittman
(18) Moss
(19) Mims
(25) Herbert
(27) Joshua Kelley
(29) Edwards
(32) Hyde (vets are included)
(43) James Robinson

RB is still fairly weak, but my hopes are I can flip some of those WRs for RB after they hit. I went into the rebuild before 2019 hoping to compete in 2021.

Newest blockbuster transaction for team 1 in sig:

Gave: Chris Godwin, Bryan Edwards

Received: Miles Sanders, 2021 1st (mid-late), 2021 2nd (should be 2.1-2.3)

How close is this team to competing? Is it time to make another big move for a stud RB, or do I trust the process and hold my future picks and keep building through the draft?
