Barkley.... what to do with this guy?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Barkley.... what to do with this guy?

Postby Ginge11 » Mon Nov 25, 2019 11:21 am

I know, I know.... Barkley is a top 3 asset in dynasty. He's super young and a generational talent (I guess). But while we wait for the NY Giants to figure things out, there's no doubt he's costing good dynasty teams a chance at the playoffs. When he's been healthy this season, he's barely returned anything on the investment. I think he's had 2-3 decent games all year. I continually start him over other RBs on my roster and regret it.

My question is whether now is a good time to shop Barkley to a rebuilding team for value? I can probably get the 2020 1.01, Derrick Henry, and Deebo Samuel for Barkley (or something along those lines). My team is built to win this year, and I'm concerned that Barkley is going to continue to put up sub 10 point games for the reason of the season and I'll get bounced in the first round.

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

No way Barkley is healthy. I think his ankle is bothering him. The dude is too talented to be playing this poorly, even considering how bad the Giants have been. I'd hold him and expect him to bounce back next season when he is completely healthy.

I can understand wanting to move Barkley, but I think it would be a mistake. Even for a rebuilding team, I would want a bit more then the original package you were offered/think you can get. The 1.01 is not a guaranteed hit either. I would hold.

He's still recovering from the high ankle sprain.

As I've seen some people point out regarding typical recovery timelines for high ankle sprains it goes something like this:

1. Initially projected to take 6-8 weeks to recover
2. Player says they are feeling good and working to return early
3. Player returns around 4 week mark after injury
4. Player does not play up to expectations and is not as effective upon return.
5. Fantasy owners get impatient and frustrated with lack of production, and many elect to move on and sell low.
6. Later in the season or the following season after the initial projected 6-8 week recovery time the player starts playing at the level everyone expects of them.

Barkley is fine, he just isn't truly back from the high ankle sprain yet. If you are truly a top contender this year and own Barkley then fine move him for another elite guy who is currently producing if you want, just know you are likely to be taking the loss on that trade over the long-term, especially if it doesn't pay off into a championship this year.

I've got him in team EMT below, I shuffled some pieces around to grab Ekeler and Hunt to give me some options. I don;t think i can play him at his current production level.
