Is Fournette worth early 2020 1st SF

Postby SteveMaddensShoes » Fri Nov 22, 2019 3:44 pm

I can probably get fournette for looks 1.02 or 1.03. Is he worth it in a vacuum? For my team? I'm second in points but significantly behind a stacked team

Team in sig

Poll added.

I was hoping everyone would say don't do it. I'm not sold on him long term, health wise, motivation wise, team wise, etc.

Ehh.

I'm not sold on him either, but who cares if Fournette fails long-term if he can win you a title this year?

i dont see you winning it all with James White as your RB2. It's a gamble but if you win the 'ship it's worth it.

I guess I'm just concerned about the long haul in general. The top player in the league is not only stacked but has 3 1sts next year. So I'm just concerned that in general he runs away with the league for years. Right now he has won 19 out of the last 20 games. I don't know if the 1.02 changes that for me. Sounds like I'm just aggravated at how good his team is. Haha.

I could not pay that in superflex format. Not with other positions being questionable and next year’s class so highly regarded. Fournette would improve your chances at winning, though I don’t think enough to burn such an early 1st rounder

Fournette was an RB1 in his rookie year. He is an RB1 again this year - his 3rd in the league. The only year he has missed significant time was last year and even then he was basically an RB3 despite missing half the year.

To me it is best to treat every rookie class as identical until after the fact. We're seeing that the 2019 class is better than many tried to advertise - and it is quite possible the 2020 class will be lesser than hype is currently advertising.

Always remember there is basically a 50% chance that the rookie you draft with an early first has of turning into what Fournette is already - a proven top 12 talent at their position. Rookie picks have lots of value because, like gold, they are the safest currency for transactions/trading since a 1st is always a 1st whereas many veteran players, be it Fournette, Cook, Barkley, Gurley, etc are going to have their detractors due to some concern or other.

In the end only you as an owner can determine if a player is worth it to your team, both in the short & long term.

But hopefully a couple of stats will help:

47 - # of RB receptions Fournette has (good enough for 5th most)
17 - points per gamer average in PPR Fournette is averaging (good enough for 9th overall)
81% - percentage of passes Fournette has caught while having Foles & Minshew as QB
24 - number of times Fournette averages touching the ball per game
3rd - Fournette is currently 3rd in yards from scrimmage in 2019

I feel your frustration. I took over a team in a dynasty league formed by two brothers. Their benches are so deep that their bench players can beat most teams on a weekly basis. I like Fournette and if he can win you a title then go for it. Next year is next year. My only knock against Fournette is his ability to stay healthy and big backs with no wiggle tend to take huge hits thus making them vulnerable. But it’s your team and your decision And he has been healthy this year.
