TE dilemma

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

TE dilemma

Postby Jcedwards » Tue Nov 05, 2019 7:37 am

I have to do something at TE this week. Ertz and Goedert have a bye, while Njoku is still on IR. My options on the wire are very limited, so out of these options who do you like best?

Jacob Hollister
Ed Dickson (if hes active)
Ryan Griffin (only is Herndon doesn't play or is only used as an emergency)
Nick Boyle
Foster Moreau
RSJ/ Harris
Herndon (trade 21 2nd)
Olsen (21 3rd)
Jared Cook (not sure what he would cost yet)

Out of these options, trading for 1 of the last 3 would probably be the best option. The only problem I have with trading for a TE, is that I can only have 3 TE's on the active roster. If Njoku is designated for return from IR, I wouldn't be able to make any moves at all, until that is taken care of. So do I just roll with one of the options off of the wire for 1 week, or trade for a better option and worry about the TE dilemma later?

Since you have Ertz and Goedert, this is basically a bye week replacement. I would grab Hollister for the week.

Hollister could be an interesting filler for 1 week. I don't think the price for Olsen is bad but it's probably only for the 1 week filler.

Thanks. That's my thinking too. Only other thing is that I can still trade for Herndon, but don't play him this week and place him on taxi. I would then leave him on taxi for the remainder of the year, but would still have a decision in the offseason, because he cannot stay on taxi past this year and I'd have 4 TE's for 3 spots again.

I would do the Herndon trade. That's a good price. Stash him on the taxi squad and pick up either Hollister or Griffin if Herndon sits.

I like Herndon for that price if you’re thinking longterm. Maybe they’d want to make a trade including njoku?

Otherwise hollister or Moreau picks seem like the best bet.

I like the Herndon value, but not for playing him this week. I'd still make the trade and pick up Hollister and hope he can have a decent game to get you by this week.

So I'm still in talks with the Herndon owner. He seems receptive to the idea of trading Herndon for a 21 2nd, but is currently looking at options of trading Hooper, and if he trades Hooper, he wants to keep Herndon. But said he is interesting in making a deal if he doesn't. So I will probably do that deal.

As the week rolls along, I'm going to wait to see what other starting TE's are going to be out for the week before deciding what to do. I think I'm going to just pick the best option off the wire at the end of the week. Looks as is Engram is already ruled out, so Rhett Ellison is an option now as well. If Herndon sits/ dresses out only in an emergency capacity, I'm probably going to go with Griffin over anyone.
