Rebuild - Offered DJ for my McLaurin

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Rebuild - Offered DJ for my McLaurin

Postby Prison_Mike » Thu Oct 24, 2019 1:54 pm

I was just offered David Johnson for my Terry McLaurin on an orphan team I picked up in the midst of a 2-3 year rebuild
DJ obviously does me know good in terms of actually using him. But would he be the more valuable trade piece?

My team for reference:

(12tm | HPPR | 1QB)

QB: Wilson, Dalton, Rudolf
RB: Hunt, McCoy, Justice, Darwin, Clement, Gaskin
WR: AJG, Boyd, McLaurin, Pettis, Goodwin, Agholor, Reynolds, Renfrow, Jennings
TE: Olsen, Knox, Oliver, J. Thomas, Moreau

I would rather hold McLaurin unless you know you can flip Johnson for multiple 2020 1sts or equivalent value.

Man I'd take DJ easily here, is McLaurin really considered equal value to DJ these days???? I realize DJ is dinged up currently (and there are IR concerns) but he was producing pretty damn well through last week . . .

That's where I'm at...do you think McLaurin is a WR1 in Washington going forward? That is the only way I'd keep him over DJ, who I would flip as soon as he is healthy.

The only real risk of taking DJ is getting stuck with him in case it goes south quickly and you can't flip him...but McLaurin could go from flavor of the month to a WR3/4 down the stretch and his value could plummet quickly.

For reference: you know who has averaged about 4 catches and 55 yards a game right now? Brandin Cooks, who now is almost untradeable because his value is so low and you can't get a legitimate offer for him. Without the TDs, McLaurin has 3 more catches and 18 more yards than Cooks.

There is risk on both sides of that trade for different reasons, IMO.

If it were any other team I might agree with you

But DJ's current production does nothing for this team (if anything, it hurts it as it would lessen the chance of the 1.01 lol)
I'm just curious as to whether others still value DJ as highly as you do; because if so, I can flip him for a greater return (young players and/or 1sts)

I'd take DJ and flip him for picks and/or younger pieces.

been trying to move my 1 DJ share since August, only had 2 teams show interest in a 14 teamer where RBs are historically treated as gold

That’s tough. Value should be on the DJ side but he is trending down while McLaurin is trending up.

If you're confident you can flip DJ quickly I’d do it, my only fear would be getting stuck with DJ and no takers.

Has to be DJ. I cant imagine you would get more than a late first for McLaurin and i cant imagine you would get less than a late first for DJ. But i could imagine you could also get more for DJ. In other words they have similar floors but DJ has the higher ceiling on the trade market

A younger piece like a terry mclaurin-type player? Even though ADP hasn’t caught up yet I bet they will be pretty close in value soon, with Mclaurin possibly passing DJ. If you’re buying to flip then I’d rather just hold mclaurin.

I love McLaurin, and he has the talent to be a WR1, but bird in the hand and all that. Take DJ, and try to flip him quickly.

Update: I took it and have regretted it because I haven’t been able to flip DJ. Most of the league has no interest lol

I finally got an offer but I feel like it’s light:

Give: David Johnson
Get: 2020 1st + 2nd + 3rd

(These picks are almost guaranteed to be the 1.12, 2.12, 3.12)

Thoughts?

This exactly. No way are these equal values.

Edit: Just saw the above. A late 1+2+3 is probably slightly light, but look at it this way — it’s also more than you’d have gotten for McLaurin! You can feel free to either sell or hold for better days IMO
