Trying to snag Austin Ekeler. Fair Offer?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trying to snag Austin Ekeler. Fair Offer?

Postby AlbertaPrime » Wed Sep 04, 2019 5:00 am

9/5 Edit: Original deal has been scrapped (thanks fam). Two potential new offers I am considering proposing to the same owner (no Ekeler involved)

Option 1:
Give: Melvin
Get: 2020 1st, 2021 1st

Option 2:
Give: Melvin
Get: 2020 1st, N'Keal Harry

Look, I know my team is not ready to compete yet, so I'm essentially playing this year out with the intention in mind that I am still rebuilding, so the potential of having two top 5 picks next year is very tempting to me. OR, do I stay the course and just be patient with Melvin and hope this situation works itself out?

One question: Why give up Jackson if you're worried about getting Ekeler? If you want the Chargers backfield you should not include Jackson.

I would hold Jackson here. No reason to move him when the Chargers backfield is up in the air. As far as the deal goes, it would really come down to how high the other owner is on Davis. I personally would not make that deal if I owned Ekeler and Harry. The Ekeler owner could be sitting on a very valuable piece in a couple weeks if he shows well.

Owner is notorious for making spur of the moment decisions without thinking long term. He'd rather cash out on Ekeler now than wait. Am I overthinking this thing now? Would a 1 for 1 Davis for Ekler swap make sense?

Your team doesn't look like its a ready to compete. There is no reason to chase after a potential one year stop gap, I say potential because there is only about a 33% chance Ekeler even warrants that title as there are the possibilities that Gordons return and/or that Jackson carves out a larger role.

What's worse than trading for an undrafted running back? When your trading him a WR with a top 5 draft pedigree, who is entering his 3rd year in the league.

I see 0 arguments for making this trade.

I agree. No reason to go and chase this deal. I would rather grab Harry then Ekeler long term easily.

Am I being ridiculous? Should I throw in a 2020 pick to sweeten the pot?
if this is a trade you think is great go for it i wouldnt do it personally...

Davis >= Harry (imo - will brady even play next year?)
Jackson/Harris > Ekeler

i dont think Ekeler is Darren Sproles personally, in 2 games he was ok last season and got hurt...best ability is availability as they say and i dont see him holding up. id rather have Jackson this season

I personally think Jackson is the back to own...Ekeler is going to do what he does and be a PPR specialist, but JJ plays a different role.

2020 2nd is a fair offer imo if the guy wants to sell.

In your initial offer....i think your giving the 3 best pieces in a 5 piece deal when the games are being played. Whatever you do, i wouldnt give Jackson if you own gordon already. Harris and jackson are not "throw in" pieces right now for a deal like this.

Harry doesnt see a huge value spike sitting on ir and Brady's age. Davis's value could drop some, but could also shoot through the roof either through his play or even simply a qb change.

Nothing about this trade makes much sense to me. First, hold Jackson like others have said. Second, leave Harry out of the offer and just make a fair offer for Ekeler.

Original poster here. Update to the potential deal as this owner really wants Melvin from me. Mind you, his team is bad and will more than likely be picking top 5 in 2020 and 2021. How is this for two potential offers:
