Trade 2020 2nd for Hockenson?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Should I trade a 2020 2nd round pick for the 1.09?

Trade 2020 2nd for Hockenson?

Postby Avery » Sat Aug 17, 2019 7:09 am

Team 1 below.

I know... I know. We are supposed to be collecting all the 2020 picks we can for this upcoming great rookie class but... Hockenson is supposed to be a generational TE prospect and he's still on the board at 1.09. Should I offer up the 2020 2nd round pick to get back into the first round and grab Hock or I am overstating his talent, not accounting for how long a rookie TE takes to develop, and overemphasizing team need and then should I roll the dice and wait for 2020 with my, what should be a high if my team is as bad as it seems, 2nd round pick?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Note: We have a small yardage scoring bump for TEs (.125 pts/yd vs .1)

If this is an option, I would make the deal. Even with next years potential class, essentially drafting Hockenson with a 2nd is fantastic value.

Without even looking at your team, this is a huge yes.

It's Hock in PPR, standard, vacuum, anything. Great value.

A couple of years ago I was set at TE for years with Gronk and Eifert no I literally don't have a TE on my roster. Having said that, I don't like drafting for need in the rookie draft but if needs meets value, all the better.

Absolutely. As good as next years draft is, you aren't getting a prospect as good as Hockenson (especially at TE) in the 2nd round.

But you are asking if you should make the offer, not accept, so unless you left some discussions with the other owner out of your post I think it's going to take more than your future 2 to get this done most likely. I wouldn't trade away the pick that would land me Hockenson for a future 2nd round pick, especially in any kind of TE Premium league.

Good points but I'm feeling like I could maybe get it done.

Many in this league are licking their lips at the 2020 draft class, and rightfully so. I agree that usually a future pick is worth less at the same point as a current pick (opportunity cost, future value and all) but I think the confluence of how flat the 2019 class is after the first 1/2 of the first round vs how strong the 2020 class is supposed to be changes the math.

But Hockenson is still on the board, so this draft still has top prospects available, Fant is only slightly behind him. They should both be top 6 picks in a 1QB/TE Premium league. If the guy takes the offer great, but I would hardly count on it.

Entirely fair point although I have seen Hock drop to the bottom of the 1st, and even to the 2nd in some cases, so not everyone sees him as a top pick. Perhaps there is a lot of concern as to his roll in Detroit, Detroit's offense overall, and what Detroit has done (or not done) with other top TE prospects.

To hop on this, since there's no way I'd be able to get Hock for a 2020 2nd in my league...

Would you guys be willing to part with a 2020 1st for Hock? Given my team (in sig) it would almost certainly be 1.08-1.10. Would that be good as it is, or should I try to get a small piece added to Hock as well?

I offered my 2nd next year ( which will be the 2.1 ) to a couple of teams in that range this year to draft hock. I was denied both times and he was taken at 10.
