Harry or Montgomery at 1.04

Postby Mr. Reid » Sat Jul 27, 2019 4:40 am

Need some rebuild advice. Looking ahead at next years talent, am I better off taking Harry or Montgomery at 1.04 this year? I'm not expecting to compete this year, ultimately trying to figure out if I should draft Harry and allow him to develop and then target a top RB or QB in next years draft. I like Montgomery more from 2019 standpoint, but once again, I'm not expecting to compete this year and the RB depth seems really strong next year. I'm expecting top three picks to be Murray, Haskins and Jacobs.

SF league with a roster of QB, QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, Flex, TE, K, DEF (14 teams)

Current Roster:
QB: Mariota, Stafford
RB: Chubb, Penny, Lewis
WR: Cooper, Kupp, C. Davis, Sutton
TE: Gesiski
14 Team SF (12 keepers)
1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1 SF 1Flex K Def

QB - Tua, Purdy
RB - Kamara, Montgomery, Gibson
WR - Chase, Lamb, Boyd
TE - Pitts

24 Picks - 2.13
25 Picks - (4) 1st rounders, (2) 2nd rounders, (2) 3rd rounders

Based off your roster, I'm leaning more towards Montgomery. It's hard to project what position your going to take in next year's draft. It's sooo far away and a lot can happen to your roster and the 2020 prospects between now and then.
10 team half-ppr 1QB 2RB 2WR 1TE 2FLX 3IDP
QB: J. Burrow, J. Goff
RB: J. Mixon, K. Walker, T. Etienne, A. Ekeler, Z. Charbonet, K. Miller, T. Bigsby, J. Warren,
WR: J. Chase, D.J. Moore, D.K. Metcalf, D. Smith, J. Smith-Njigba, P. Nacua, J. Meyers, T. Palmer,
TE: T. Kelce, T. McBride, C. Okonkwo

just because you're rebuilding doesn't mean you can't trade rookies, so take the guy that's going to have more value this season, for me that's most likely to be Montgomery.
12 team ppr, 1 qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, 1 te, 2 flex
QB: Deshaun Watson, Marcus Mariota
RB: Ezekiel Elliott, Le'Veon Bell, Kerryon Johnson, Peyton Barber, Ronald Jones, Darwin Thompson
WR: Amari Cooper, Adam Thielen, Antonio Brown, Will Fuller, DeDe Westbrook, Robby Anderson, Marquise Goodwin, Justin Watson, Albert Wilson, Greg Dortch
TE: Travis Kelce, Vance McDonald, Kyle Rudolph, Delanie Walker, Ian Thomas, Gerald Everett

I agree with this. Most wr’s typically take a bit of time to develop and although you are rebuilding, by the end of that time Brady may be gone. With no clear qb path for the patriots, it makes things a bit difficult with the Harry evaluation (other than he’s a very good wr).

Appreciate everyone's feedback. The draft isn't for a couple more weeks, but 99% sure the top two picks will be Murray and Haskins. Jacobs isn't a lock to go 3rd, but probably will.

Why isn’t sanders in this discussion? I prefer him to Montgomery, and sanders vs harry would be my debate.

Like Harry, but I think Montgomery has more value. Maybe look to trade back?

The only reason to draft Monty over Harry is to flip him but if he happens to under preform(yes, this does happen as hard as it is to believe at this point in the year where every rookie is a lock to be top 10 at their position) I'd go Harry for talent and rebuild. He is much more insulated imo. Yes, WR's bust as well but they carry more value longer while you rebuild, imo. Harry doesn't have to do anything this year and he will still hold some value. If he flashes at all he'll be worth more. If Monty doesn't flash then he is done. Just how it works in the RB world.

There is no way to know who will be worth more long term but Harry checks more boxes without a doubt.
