Swing for a stud? Package picks for Conner Question

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Swing for a stud? Package picks for Conner Question

Postby johnnymozart » Tue Jul 02, 2019 10:01 pm

So the safe route here is to take Montgomery at 3 and then BAP @8 -- But would you offer up 1.03 and 1.08 for Conner and 2.04 (18th overall)... The guy could use more WR's and has good RB depth already. I could then get 3 decent fliers with my 15, 16, and 18th picks and have a stud trio of Chubb, Conner, Kerryon at RB in a 14 teamer.

Thoughts on pursuing this?

I wouldn't do it. I think an underlooked element is the cellular damage that radiation and chemotherapy have long term on a person's body. i question conner's ability to hold up for the whole season and even beyond those concerns i question his overall talent. I think Montgomery has arguably equal talent and opportunity and no injury concerns.

Not super high on Connor, I’d keep the picks and use them on another guy if possible

In normal 'deeper' leagues I would concur with the others so far & say keep the picks. However your starting requirements are shallow from what I can see (7 starters total?) so that for me puts more of a premium on proven talent. So in that situation, if I felt I only needed 1 more RB/veteran to be a contender, I could see myself doing that type of deal. I would consider other veteran options if you could - like say Bell or DJ - but Conner should work as well. All depends on whether you feel you're ready to flip the switch from building to contending though.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

I think this is relatively cheap for Conner considering its basically Montgomery straight up for Conner as I believe there is a huge drop off after the top 4 or 5 picks. I think Conner is the safer bet to more work as Cohen isn't going anywhere in Chicago.

I would also rather get a 2020 2nd on top of this deal than the 2.04 due to the expected depth in next year's draft class.

I'm not even that high on Conner, but this feels pretty cheap for him. You can always try to offer those picks for another stud RB if you want, but if there are no takers, I'd have a hard time not paying that for Conner.

No owner should be willing to give up Conner for the 1.03 and 1.08.
That would be a steal to get him for that.

I'm beginning to sense a pattern with everyone over-reacting and then criminally undervaluing the Steelers starting RB. This has been going on since after Bell's rookie season.

I'm beginning to also sense a pattern that those who wisely invest in the Steelers starting backfield and handcuffs tend to win a lot of chips as well.
