Sell Evans in rebuild?

Postby TimeWillTell » Thu Jun 20, 2019 7:14 am

So chatting with a friend in a league he casually asked (in the setting of other discussions) what I'd sell Evans for. I jokingly said "probably for your Mike Williams, Golladay, Godwin and 2020 1st.". His shocking reply was"let me think on that.". He also has Allen and AB, but this would def make his roster shallow. Now, I have no formal offer and absolutely don't expect too once he thinks in it. However, I haven't had any interest in moving Evans given his youngish age and elite status. He an Barkley are my foundation of my rebuild (or so I thought). But this got me thinking: am I wrong? Those 3 WR get a lot of love here and would help my depth immensely, but none are that elite tier like Evans. So is selling a quarter for four dimes wish in my situation? I have 6 2020 1sts also and 2 2020 2nds. Again, all hypothetical as I'm new to dynasty and trying to learn my way (unless he really does offer that? Idk) Thanks!

I love Evans but that would be a haul I'd do it without the first added

Okay I kind of thought so but I was worried I was de-consolidating from a stud to three WR2s. Put another way: the value was there but sometimes it's better to hold tight.

ETA: again, hypothetical as no offer and I'm sure he'll wise up

I get building around Evans, and he is really good and productive, but you would potentially be adding 3 building blocks at wr plus a 2020 1st. I would much prefer that.

A league I am in, I had Michael Thomas and traded him to get more picks and add younger WRs (Team 1 in sig). In a rebuild, in my opinion, more assets is better than trying to build around one stud that you can turn into 3-4 solid pieces.

With all those 2020 1st in hand already could use several picks to buy couple players (like a RB and WR) to be a contender. At some point got to have players to make plays. Evans is your only true WR1 stud, you sell off Evans then have 6-8 WR 2/3 type guys hard to win titles that way. You could try sell WR2/3 or other RB with the 2020 picks for upgrading players.

Unfortunately, people in this league generally don't sell proven guys for picks. We only a year into the league and everyone is brand new to dynasty. Otherwise I'd have already done this as I've been trying hard.

But I am leaning towards your point of view. I may not contend this year but as those 2020 1st value build next year maybe I can buy players for a 2020 run instead of relying on rookies to develop.

I'd probably do that trade if I were rebuilding. Evans is certainly a rebuilding piece but I think that those 4 pieces give you a much better set of building blocks. Could one of those 4 picks turn into Evans? probably not. But those 4 pieces will likely be better than evans and whatever other 3 pieces you get/have

In a rebuild, Golladay, Williams, Godwin and a 1st is a nice haul. I would possibly ask for a 2nd too. Evans is a big time piece.

Add assets in rebuild...gotta take it.

If you decide to keep evans and barkley....go get proven players over the next few drafts (via trade)...let youth develop.

Golladay isn't extremely far off Evans in ADP. Any other one of those WRs and that 1st would be a good price for Evans as well. That said, since this league is relatively new and you have so many 2020 1sts, it seems that the strategy you used during the startup was to trade down, stockpile those picks, and build for the future.
If you're uncomfortable selling Evans, you shouldn't. Keep Eavns and Barkley and draft more young studs is a supposedly loaded class (maybe trading one or two of them at a premium to let other owners into the 1st when they get that fever next draft season and are willing to over pay). You have a couple other young WRs and Herndon who could develop and with those picks next year, you potentially have a team that could evolve into a dynasty.
