Just traded for DJ: how did I do?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Just traded for DJ: how did I do?

Postby Nimrod » Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:01 am

I went 0 RB in my startup for Team 1 in sig. desperately needed RB help. How did I do?

I gave 1.03, 2020 1st, 2020 3rd

I got: David Johnson, 2.08

I feel like this makes me a real contender this year, pushing my 2020 to a likely late pick. I love DJ, and Sanders was who I would have ended up with at 1.03 and I just don’t have confidence in Pedersons history of the platoon.

I don't think your competing this year so you gave up some young high capital guys for for an aging rb in a bad offense. That seems to want to throw the ball

I'm not sure I view your team as an out and out contender. I probably would have held the picks but if you view your team as a contender in your league, I fully understand making this deal.

I dont agree with the other two regarding this team being able to compete. Your WR group is top notch and you have a TE that should put up top 5 or so numbers. Adding DJ gives you a legit chance IMO. Especially being a startup as most teams should be pretty balanced.

Off topic, but who was your 3rd pick? You said you went 0 RB so I would have expected to see a top TE or another WR1 on your team.

I know it helps in rebuild to have more draft capital but I feel like this is super cheap for DJ and would jump on this regardless of team structure, or am I crazy? He's a proven talent that had a "bad" year last year and still ended top 10 at his position so I would easily want a proven talent back in return. Even in rebuild you can sell him for way more than what you paid for him. feel like this was a steal and would have made this even with the 2.08 not involved.

GREAT move in my opinion but judging by the poll I could be way off compared to the norm.

I went Adams, then Evans at the turn.

Yes I’m not sure why I wouldn’t be a contender. Maybe I am too high in my WRs?

My 2nd and 3rd Flex are Kupp and Golladay. Most people are flexing players like Tevin Coleman, LeSeab McCoy, Trequan Smith, Corey Davis and such. I feel like having 5 top 24 receivers in a 12 Team gives me an advance on my weekly floor.

I few really good about this. I know that everyone has a different philosophy on picks and value. I lean more on the side of investing heavily at WR and only expecting 2-3 great years from RBs since their longevity is so much more limited.

DJ only has about 900 career touches. LeV Bell has 1500, Zeke has 1200, Gurley has 1400. All workhorse backs in a similar spot. I know DJ is older at 27, but I think he is an RB1 for at least 2 years. And I’m happy with that!

1.03 = three down back prospect or high upside first round pick receiver
2020 1st = good chance of getting at least a solid player with the stacked talent, but also a decent chance at landing a stud

DJ = aging RB on a bad offense with a new coach, QB and entire supporting cast pretty much

This is easily the pick side for me. You have a nice stable of young WRs, you need some nice young RBs to compliment that. I'm sure you'll be competitive this year if he has a big season, but how long will he last? Maybe I've just given up on him but that seems pretty steep for someone of his age. I would have targeted Freeman or something. Same upside but a lot less cost

In an established league, I can see making this kind of move. But immediately after a startup, I hate it. It's way too early to go all-in on 2019. You suffer a key injury here or there, and you're pissed. I'd suggest making these kinds of moves in November or December.. not June.

Looks like people are pretty split on this deal! I love it! Just goes to show there is no scientific method to fantasy! Each owner has to do what we can to win.

I will take the 27 year old DJ with only 850 career touches in the new and exciting offense over the unknowns of the rookies and ride that wave as far as it takes me!

Thanks guys this was fun

I'm high on Sanders. Still think this was a good deal. Picks are complete unknowns. DJ's bad year, as long as he is in the field, top 12 RB.

Also, if you can avoid major injuries I agree you have a chance to compete. Good luck!
