Startup Finished - Is my roster competitive?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Startup Finished - Is my roster competitive?

Postby hoos89 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 3:56 pm

I just finished a startup (team 3 in sig) and think I did pretty well considering that I now have four 1sts (one of which I project early).

Do you see this team as a possible contender? And given the current state of my roster, would you:

A) Attempt to buy more 1sts (particularly from teams that look to be less competitive this season)
B) Sell 1 or more 1sts in order to plug a hole (RB2 and TE come to mind)
C) Stand pat for now and see how the first few weeks play out

I would hold your picks. You can reinvent your RB core with the 2020 1st round picks. As the season approaches, I would try and move: L. Miller, Anderson and Ito and keep building for 2020. I dont view this roster as a contender at all. Thomas is a big piece to build around.

Because of the starting requirements there are a lot of teams starting nobodies at 2 or 3 spots. I think I'd probably make the playoffs if I don't do anything (and Gurley's leg doesn't fall off).

I did not factor in the large starting requirements. If you make it into the playoffs, anything can happen as we all know. I would still hold your picks next year as it could help separate your depth a bit. And yes, Gurley's knee is a big question mark ha ha.

I'm hoping he gets off to a hot start so I can sell high. I was not targeting him, but he fell to 2.09. I do feel like I'm kind of in no-man's land right now with 4 firsts and a team that has solid depth but lacks the top-end strength to win a title this season without a fair bit of luck.

I think you should get a championship this year out of your head. If it happens, great, but focus on making there be no doubt you are a contender for the next 3-5 years after next year’s draft. I would keep your 2020 firsts, and continue to focus on making equitable trades without thinking about “need” for this year.
22 man 12 team PPR (1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1FLEX) - 2019 CHAMPION

QB - Garrapolo, Stafford, Winston
RB - Mixon, Cook, Gurley
WR - Thomas, Hopkins, Evans, Golladay, D. Samuel, C. Davis, Westbrook, Perriman, Tre'Quan Smith
TE - Kelce, Henry, Njoku, Herndon

2020 - None
2021- 3rd

Yeah I'm thinking of poking around with some of the owners whose rosters I consider to be a bit weaker to see if they will sell their 2020 1sts at random 2020 1st value.

If everything breaks right, you are a contender. Gurley=knee/Tarik=starter/Miller=still starter/Watkins=no Hill and healthy.
I would always try to acquire 1sts from less competitive teams.
I wouldn’t be selling 1sts this early.

Honestly playoffs are possible title probably not. I'd honestly shop Gurley see what you get offered but take no less then 2 1st and a starter. But hang on to 2020 first you will be loaded after that draft plenty of wr and rb coming out there.
10 Team salary: No PPR, 4pt passing td, 6pt rushing/receiving, 1 pt every 100 yds

Lineup: basically like a NFL lineup
1qb
5 skill positions
Rb: Up to 3 but dont have to start any
Wr: up to 5 but dont have to do any
Te: up to 3 but dont have to do any
Salary Cap: 47.50
QB: Wentz(3@.50) Jimmy G(4@.50), Josh Allen(5@1)
RB: Barkley(6@3.00),James Connor(2@2.70) Mixon(5@1.60), Fournette(5@2.80), Guice(6@2.40), Montgomery(5@2.60),Justice Hill(3@1.00) Alexander Mattinson(3@.5)
WR: OBJ(4@8.70), Adams(4@7.50) DJ Moore(5@1.60), Pettis(3@.50), Deebo(4@.80) Campbell(4@1.20), JJAW(3@.50) Keesean Johnson(3@.5) Sutton(3@.5)
TE: Ertz(1@.5) Will Dissly(3@1.00)
K: Gould, Prater
Def: Browns, Pats

2 round rookie draft
2020
3 firsts, 1 Second
2021
2 firsts, 1 2nd

I think I need to wait on selling Gurley until the season starts. League was pretty openly disparaging of him while he was falling during the draft. For the record, I think the best starting lineup in the league is:

Jimmy Garoppolo
Devonta Freeman
Damien Williams
DeAndre Hopkins
AJG
Brandin Cooks
George Kittle
Rashaad Penny
Matt Breida
Curtis Samuel

(Plus he has Kareem Hunt...but has no 2020 picks)
Team 1: 2012-2016
2013 Champion, 2012 Runner-Up
