This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

D’onta or Ito

Postby whodatbama » Sat Jun 08, 2019 11:03 am

Which young backup RB would you prefer?
D’onta Foreman or Ito Smith

Both are 23. The starters ahead of them are aging 28/27 respectively. I think I would like to have Ito over Donta. Would that be the right move?

I think I would take Foreman, just because I think he profiles as more of a bell cow than Smith. I think it’s pretty close between those two players though.

I agree with this line of thinking, although for me it’s not even that close.

Foreman has the chance to be a bellicow back by mid-season.

Ito Smith might become what, Nyheim Hines? Duke Johnson? Corey Clement? Austin Eckeler?

Pass.

Smith is more likely to be a flex-worthy player in week 1, but his ceiling is much lower than Foreman if they both hit their ceiling IMO.

Both are worthless and will not take over for either teams. Ito doesn’t have the size or talent. Foreman will never be the same player after that brutal injury he had last year. I wouldn’t want either one.

I would rather gamble on Foreman. He is more built for the NFL and could handle more workload body type wise. He has flashed the week he snapped his achilles.

Glad I clicked on this thread. I was silly enough to keep Foreman on my roster but thankfully I've now dropped him.

Well said. Foreman without question for me as well. Right now is the cheapest he’ll be for the next 5 years imo

Would love to see the mental gymnastics needed to try and explain how Rojos situation is anything like foreman or Smiths. Because it’s not.

Who said their situations are similar? Outside of all three of them being second-string RBs, their situations are pretty different. Foreman is a big, fast runner who plays in an RB-friendly offense that had the fifth-highest rushing percentage last season. Ito is an excellent receiver out of the backfield who plays in a more pass-happy offense that tends to prefer more of a committee backfield. RoJo is slow, undersized and a subpar pass catcher in a pass-happy offense. So I agree wholeheartedly with you. RoJo’s situation is nothing like Foreman’s or Ito’s. It’s much, much worse. Good luck with him. Let me know how that works out for you.

Also, to the OP, I think it comes down to whether you want to play it safe or swing for the fences. As others have said above, Ito’s floor is probably higher and he should have more of a defined role this season, while Foreman likely has the higher ceiling if he’s able to take over as the starter.

I traded Foreman this offseason and eventually ended up with Ito.

If I had my choice, I would prefer Foreman for the reason Lucky presented earlier.

I see no path to Ito being a reliable starter. If Foreman is right health wise, which is a big if- he has some decent potential. He flashed well and that offense is going to score some points
