A Crazy DJ deal

Postby Kmani6 » Wed May 22, 2019 9:06 am

I’ve been going back and forth with an owner right now and I’ve basically driven DJs value up as high as I could. I’m lookin at the following offer:

Send: David Johnson
Receive: Stefon Diggs, Sammy Watkins, Mecole Hardman, and Rashaad Penny

I know this seems absurd but maybe I’m just super high on David Johnson and thinking he’s gonna ball out and be top 5 again next year, but still i’m having a hard time accepting. It’s weird because I love all 4 of the pieces especially diggs and Penny, but I feel like giving up a Stud RB hurts especially in .2 PPC. I just sold mixon and Hines for Evans, AJ Brown and a 21 first. Can someone reason me into making a good decision?

Dunno what else you need to hear, but accept ASAP. That's a huge overpay for Johnson, even in PPC.

to be fair it would hurt my starting lineup and DJ has 400 point potential in my league format (PPR, .2 PPC), whereas I don’t see diggs putting up any more than 300 even if he goes insane (Juju had 296 last season).

edit - didn't look at your roster before i posted

With your roster looking like a competitor, DJ might be the answer for this season if you truly believe he returns to form. The package is ripe with long term upside tho, and Penny could very well be a reasonable RB replacement if he plays up to potential.

I guess I’m scared David Johnson has a 2016 like season again. In my league format he scored 490 points that season...

To be completely honest I love running backs to. In this league format guys like hill and Hopkins put up 330 points last year and that’s about the max WR put up. Elite RBs have a ceiling of close to 500 points which is scary so for a win now team I’m having a hard time letting him go. Is this deal so good to the point that I should still sacrifice my starting lineup to take on the other developing players?

To be honest I don't think I would take the deal. This is a 10 team league and studs mean everything.

Diggs is good but all of the other pieces have huge ?'s. DJ is a pass catching back that is going to get boat load of carries and looks. I think you have the depth at RB to do this but I would much rather look to move Bell over DJ at this point. Especially if you think DJ is coming back around.

While ultimately I would be hard-pressed to pass up that much value, I agree with this line of thinking - I don't think it helps your team that much.

End of the day, I'm taking that deal. But I'd spend the first 23 hours / 59 minutes of that day trying to trade Bell or Cook before making this deal.

Re: A Crazy DJ deal

That's kinda how I'm feeling as well. I feel a ton better about keeping DJ in my starting lineup than Diggs especially with the RB ceiling in .2 PPC. Unfortunately, I don't get interest in Bell or Cook like I do with David Johnson so if I do make a deal it would have to include him. I have 0 2020 1sts, but 2 2021 1sts. I would say my bench still has a lot of talent in Cooper, Pettis, A.J. Brown, etc., but if I make this move while competing (especially in 10 man where studs are everything), it would mean the extra pieces are just too good to turn down. Therefore, the real question becomes do you all think Watkins/Hardman will have a seriously big impact in KC or could we be in a situation where the offense is still run through Kelce and Hill gets s suspension and that's it. Likewise, although Penny's upside is great, do we think he can develop into that 1000 yard RB next year, or be overshadowed by Carson once again?

Here's his team if anyone wants to take a look for a possible counter-offer, etc.

RB: Devonta Freeman, Derrick Henry, Rashaad Penny, Royce Freeman, Justice Hill
WR: Stefon Diggs, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Boyd, Emmanuel Sanders, Sammy Watkins, Mecole Hardman, John Brown
TE: Eric Ebron

Dynasty Team 2:

10 Man, Half PPR, Double Flex

QB: Tua
RB: Barkley , Mixon, Javonte, Jacobs, CEH
WR: AJB, Tyreek, Lamb, Aiyuk, Bateman
TE: Kittle

2022 Picks: 1.5, 1.6, 2.3

Johnson + 2nd for Diggs + Cooks seems like it might make sense for both of you. Based on your valuation of Johnson though, it would seem like Diggs + Cooks + Boyd + Ebron + 2020 1st is what you'd need to sell.

Hahaha no, we think alike. I tried DJ and a 2nd for Diggs + Cooks already. I love that trade and view Cooks as a proven fringe WR1 which is more than Watkins who's made of glass, Hardman who has the upside but to be honest were only so high on him because Tyreek Hill did it in KC (he's super raw), and Penny who is definitely playing behind a young bull in Carson right now...

Assuming it was rejected, is there a similar counter that might work? I'd explore that offer as a base to this deal.

I got him to offer Devonta Freeman, Stefon Diggs, and Sammy Watkins. I think this deal is good enough to accept, but does it beat the other deal on the table? It's essentially penny and Mecole for freeman.
