Just Inherited This Orphan, Trade McCaffrey?

Just took over an orphan, team 2 in my signature below. Needless to say, the team is a complete dumpster fire aside from QB and McCaffrey. This is obviously going to be a complete rebuild. I have to trade McCaffrey right? I'm probably a good three years from competing and McCaffrey's value is probably at his peak and I really have no other pieces (aside form Henry, Watson, and Fuller) to deal with. If I do trade him, what should I be looking for in return? I figured at minimum multiple 1sts and at least one young prospect.

Patients and smart long term trades are the only way to go here. If this is a snake draft, that really needs to looked at.

I agree- you should probably move him but make sure it makes sense for you long term. I'd be looking at a young WR and a 2020 1st or two.
Don't sell just to sell. Wait until a competing team loses an RB in season if you have to.

I'd try to sell Henry first. If cmc won't be around when you are competing then Henry definitely won't be either.

Yeah, if they are doing a snaked rookie draft, the commish doesn't know what he is doing.

I would be moving everyone, including Watson and Henry. You are a long way off competing and in your situation I would be trying to buy up WR's and picks where I could.

I bet you can get one of the following straight up for CMC:

Evans, Diggs, K. Allen, Cooks - any of them would be solid gets (for the guys other than Evans, MAYBE you can get a late or future First tacked on??)

I’d also look at getting guys like Corey Davis, Mike Williams, Dante Pettis, Kenny Golladay, or Landry - but with an early 1st tacked on, or a pair of 1sts?

I would not move him. People way overestimate how long rebuilds take in fantasy football. Anyone taking 3+ years is doing it wrong. I've seen PLENTY of teams go from worst to first or near it over the years.

You have 1.2 this year which should net you a nice player. Then you end up with an early pick in next year's loaded class and all of the sudden you end up with one of the top RB duos in the league alongside some other nice pieces and a single good WW pickup or two over the next two years fills out your team nicely.

McCaffrey is exactly the kind of guy to build around. Heck the runner-up in my league this year just did that. 2 years ago he had literally the worst team I'd ever seen. Then drafted McCaffrey and Barkley in back to back years and had Thielen/Kittle really break out and all of the sudden he's in the championship game.

His team headed into the 2016 offseason:
QB: Carr, Rivers
RB: Artis-Payne, Karlos Williams, Chark West, Starks, Chris Johnson
WR: Thielen, Sterling Shepard, John Brown, Decker, Ginn, Aiken
TE: Julius Thomas

If he can turn it around in 2 years from that team, you certainly can from yours.

There's no way I would move CMC. He's only 22. He just finished as the #3 overall player. He's the type of guy you build around. Keep building through the draft and give it a couple years.

Thanks for the advice. What would you be trying to get for Henry? I've never been high on him and thought about seeing if I could trade him straight up for a young WR like Sutton, DJ Moore, Williams, etc. Think I could swing something like that?
