K. Rudolph for I. Thomas

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

K. Rudolph for I. Thomas

Postby cm56776 » Fri Mar 01, 2019 7:50 am

This morning I received the following offer:

Get
Kyle Rudolph

Give
Ian Thomas

It is a 12 Team league, 1.5 PPR for TE.

My current TE situation is

Evan Engram
JIMMY Graham
Hayden Hurst
C.J. Uzomah
Blake Jarwin
Ian Thomas

Is Thomas’ upside worth turning down this offer? Or is it an instant accept?

Cheers!

Honestly, I'd rather have Thomas. Probably not a popular opinion, but to me you already have a startable TE in Engram, and once you're past the top 3 TEs they pretty much are all the same. Thomas I think has more upside than Rudolph

Easy accept. Thomas, while I like him, is still an unknown. Rudolph is one of those guys that's always going to be around the TE1 ranks. If you really want to try for the upside I guess you could go Thomas

I was faced with this same offer for a 16 team start 2 TE league.

Give me Thomas. Rudolph turns 30 this year, doesn't improve your lineup and is a player with minimal trade value. Have no problem trading Thomas in a deal for a better TE, but Rudolph isn't the guy. He would likely waste away on your bench.

I would rather have Thomas based on age and upside. Risky based on knowing what Rudolph is but he is not an elite option.

To me, its as if some dont watch the actual games. It's Rudulph if you want to compete. Yes, I understand he has been less than elite but he is still a low end TE1 / high end TE2 in scoring. I also expect the Offensive line in Mn to get some attention soon so in turn, i'd expect more routes run and less designed blocking. Just a hunch. Anyway, in a TE landscape that is incredibly thin one could do worse than Rudolph and Engram. There are just as many questions about Engram's production. Not sure how some minimize that. I.Thomas is a JAG in my honest opinion, and one that likely will not be fantasy relevant at all in the not too distant future. My guess is Carolina drafts a TE soon. Minnesota will not be doing that.

I watched actual games, quite a few of them. I saw a rookie TE who was drafted as a raw project struggle in the beginning of the year and then once Olsen was out for the year, go toe to toe with Rudolph over the last 4 games of the season. In fact, he would've outscored Rudolph if we take away that hail mary Rudolph caught against the Lions.

Rudolph has had an extremely solid career, but how much longer do you expect him to be relevant for? A soon to be 30 year old TE of Rudolph's caliber is easy to acquire. I'd prefer to roll the dice with the young athletic te who showed me something in his rookie season, especially if I'm already rostering a better option.

Evan Engram - probably your starter. Rudolph could push him.
JIMMY Graham - if he has a resurgeance, could be the guy, or someone to trade if he starts the season hot.

Hayden Hurst - still has potential - maybe steps up this season?
C.J. Uzomah / Blake Jarwin - not as much hope for them, I think
Ian Thomas - I'm a believer, so it probably depends on if you think of Hurst as your future, or if you think Engram or Graham would keep Rudolph on your bench all season.

I think the deal is pretty even. Thomas' floor is lower however, and Rudolph is a plug-and-play now if you need him.

Good luck!
