Herndon & 3rd for McKinnon

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Herndon & 3rd for McKinnon

Postby JamboMac » Mon Jan 14, 2019 11:59 am

Out: Herndon & 3.03
In: McKinnon

I really like Herndon, but I’m quite thin at RB, so would like your thoughts on this?

Do we assume Herndon will blow up next year, or would you risk McKinnon not really knowing his production value with Breida playing so well. Although there is no doubting McKinnon is talented.

I am quite confident I have one of the best TE’s in the league though, and Gesicki is definitely a baller if he gets the targets. I never expected him to break out in his rookie year anyway.

Our league changes from 0.5 PPR to 1 PPR for TE in the new season, as well..
12 team - 1QB, PPR
QB- Mahomes, Geno, Dobbs
RB- Ekeler, Taylor, Z.White, B.Robinson, Mattison, Stevenson, Zeke
WR- Allen, Jefferson, Tyreek, AJ Brown, M.Thomas, Atwell
TE- McBride, Waller, J.Smith

12 team - SF, PPR, 0.25PPC, 1.5 TEP
QB - Allen, Lawrence, Jackson
RB - JT, Etienne, Hall, K.Williams, Gibbs, Dobbins
WR - Lamb, St Brown, AJ Brown, Aiyuk, JSN, Meyers
TE - Pitts, Engram, Freiermuth, Otton,

I'd probably take it if I were you. Losing Herndon isn't too bad when you'll have Henry back, and the 3.03 isn't going to make you lose sleep. Obviously Mckinnon is an unknown but for your team I think its worth the risk.

I'm glad you mentioned McKinnon though I was just trying to research him and find out his value so I'm looking forward to seeing the other responses on this

I think I prefer Herndon over McKinnon long-term, but in terms of current value (or at least over the next few months), McKinnon will be worth more. I'd probably make the trade just to flip McKinnon once he's in training camp and there's buzz about how well he's doing.

This is a no brainer for me. Breida did exactly what we wanted him to do to BOOST McKinnon's production not take it away. There was never a universe where McKinnon was a bell cow and I believe Shannahans plan was always to use a 1A 1B combo at RB similar to Freeman and Coleman. Breida is a great runner but he actually left a good amount to be desired in the passing game and he also showed that he probably isn't the type to handle a bell cow workload either considering every week he was a true questionable tag and seemed to leave games early multiple times due to being banged up. I'm expecting it to be a 60/40 to 50/50 split of carries between the two and McKinnon to be the primary receiver. Let's not forget that there was some legitimate hype that McKinnon would be in the 70+ reception ball park before his injury, that puts him in the high end RB2 range, add in 150-175 carries and you've got a potential RB1.

I like what Herndon showed as a rookie but unless he becomes the next late round george kittle then its unlikely he ever becomes anything other than a low end TE1 which is pretty useless for your team since you have HH and Gisecki who is undoubtedly the better athlete than Herndon

Yeah I was leaning towards McKinnon already, just really like Herndon, so wasn’t entirely sure. Not bad considering I got Herndon off waivers half way through the season. So I can’t regret it either way, I suppose.

I think that is a deal you should make. I think Herndon could very well turn into a nice piece but the potential of McKinnon is still large

I’ve taken the offer. I’ve been hunting McKinnon for a while as his value is rock bottom now, and seeing as I picked up Herndon off waivers, I consider this a win. Just hope the guy can live up to the hype!

On value, take McKinnon but you don't want to hang onto him. Move him later this off season after the excitement builds for more than you're giving up.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

The flipping part of Mckinnon is probably true, but I would rather use him for his High end RB2 upside in Shana's offense
