TE prem- Ertz vs Evans and Gronk?

Postby hockeyBjj » Fri Nov 16, 2018 7:45 am

TE in this league get a boost of full ppr while WR and RB have half ppr. This is a point per first down league, as well as point bonuses for plays of 20+ or 40+, and an extra point for having 100, 150, 200 yard days

My team is a contender (8-2 with #2 overall points scored), think I have a strong shot at the championship riding the strength of my QBs in this superflex league where QBs are a bit OP at the moment and will be tweaked down in the offseason

start 1QB, 1SF, 3RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1WR/TE, 1 RB/WR/TE

My notable players, typical starting lineup in bold
QB- Rodgers, Watson, Ryan
RB- Melvin Gordon, Tarik Cohen, Carson, Penny, Chris Thompson
WR- T Hill, D Adams, Godwin, Fitz, Marquez Valdez-Scantling, T Williams, M Williams, D Parker, K Cole, Moncrief (note I cannot trade WR depth for anything in this league)
TE- Ertz

I feel this would be easier if I had a better TE behind Ertz. I have RSJ on IR and picked up Herndon. So if Gronk flops I'm incredible week at a prem position.

Ertz is the #9 non QB scorer in this league by average @ 26.5. Evans is #23 @21.4. Gronk is 63 @ 15.3.

Since you don't even have to start a TE I'd take the Evans side. Long term I'd value evans>ertz in this format so gronk is just gravy.

Whoops. That was a severe typo. There's a mandatory TE started. I'll reset the poll as yeah, that would be a crucial deciding factor

Then a wr/TE flex, and then a normal flex

Guy I'm trading with has Kelce and Kittle already, so he wants to start 3TEs a week with the format

Gronk's on his way out. Give me Ertz over Engram pretty easily.

My bad...just saw that. I that case, I'd probably lean Evans side but it's still close.

Have no more faith in Gronk, but he's basically free because I would value Evans over Ertz even in this format. With the big play bonus added that makes Evans slightly more valuable than he already is, he and Ertz are probably about even on the 1st down bonus.

Value-wise this is close, but you're 8-2, so this comes down to a risk/reward move. Evans would be a big upgrade over Godwin or Valdes-Scantling for you, but do you trust Gronk to stay healthy for the fantasy playoffs? My decision would depend on an evaluation of the other high-seeded teams.

If you think you can win without the Evans upgrade, I'd keep Ertz for stability at TE. If you think that you're an underdog right now, then take a risk for a big WR upgrade, and if Gronk can stay 100% healthy, then you got a free WR upgrade ROS while still getting top-5 TE production. Do you feel lucky?

I'd probably lean on Ertz...Ertz has been really consistent for the past 3 years where Evans has not. Gronk is irrelevant. After this injury riddled season I would be shocked if he plays in 2019. I get Evans is about 3 years younger but WR's due tend to decline faster than TE's and Ertz isn't some freak athlete that relies on talent, he wins with good route running and football smarts. When Evans loses a step it will be more noticeable IMO but I think their values are close so this is jsut personal preference and I don't think you can go wrong. Only thing is Gronk will probably be in and out the rest of season so you'll be in a tight situation at TE

Injuries & an overzealous lifestyle are catching up w/ Gronk, so I wouldn’t be excited about the step down.

So to me, it’s Evans v. Ertz & I’ll take Ertz all day long. He’s out scoring Evans considerably when both are getting a full point, the gap is massive when Evans doesn’t get a full point. & who knows if Evans ever gets a consistent QB. Ertz is a cheat code... keep him
Team 1

QB- Carr, Mac
RB- Kamara, Patterson, Swift, Ingram, Foreman, Breida
WR- M Thomas, Metcalf, Keenan, Bourne, AB, Waddle, Green, D-Jax, Landry, St. Brown
TE- Waller, Hockenson
K- Tucker
D- Miami
Start: QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, TE, WR/RB, WR/TE, K, D

ertz is outperforming Evans in my TE premium leagues.. and he did last season too
while i like gronk, and think he is a buy low for the rest of the season, i am not sure where is head is...so i would rather have the ertz side
team 1 -start QB RB 2WR TE 2RB/WR 1WR/TE
qbs=5pt tds wr/te=1 ppr rbs=.5ppr all get .25ppc
Watson, Brady, Mills
Ekeler, Hunt, Carson/Penny, DForeman, Mitchell, CPat, Kyren, Ford, KHarris
Cooper, sutton, Chase, Shepard, Atwell, Schwartz, Wan'Dale, Austin III
Gesicki, Engram, Hooper, Woods
team 2 -start QB 2RB 3WR TE 2Flex K D
Cousins, Stafford
DH JT, Ekeler, Kylin Hill, Herbert, KHarris, Chandler
Hopkins, Diggs, Adams, Godwin, McLaurin, Callaway, DPJ, Robby Anderson, Schwartz, Pierce, Wan'Dale, Doubs
Kelce, Andrews, Jacob Harris

I would lean Evans, but you're 8-2 and I think part of that is your current stability at TE. Keep Ertz and win that ship
