Trade for Ertz/Kelce/Kittle, or ride it out with Gronk/Burton?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade for Ertz/Kelce/Kittle, or ride it out with Gronk/Burton?

Postby Life of Pablo » Wed Nov 14, 2018 1:55 pm

Team in sig - looking for one more championship upgrade before our trade deadline, and TE is my biggest weakness (QB has been weak too, but I'm content with Brady/Wilson).

Gronk and Burton, while ok, have left a little to be desired. I'm thinking of trading Burton away, along with either ARob or my 1st (almost guaranteed 1.08-1.10 at this point), to get one of these TE's. Do you think it is worth it, not just for this season but also in terms of future value? Kittle looks to be a confident TE1 for years now, and I don't see any reason why Ertz and Kelce can't be top 5 TE's for the next year or two as well.

To reiterate, the offer ideas are below (let's assume my 1st will be 1.10, as that's how the other owners will see it). Let me know what you think of these offers or any suggestions to tweak it. And FYI, I would consider offering Gronk instead of Burton, but nobody in my league wants anything to do with him right now. Just gonna hold him regardless. While I haven't written him off for this season yet, I am worried about him retiring at the end of the year and need to explore life after Gronk :boohoo:

Burton + choice of ARob/1.10 for Ertz
(Ertz owner is out of contention, tanking)

Burton + ARob for Kelce
(Kelce owner is contending, no TE behind Kelce, but desperately needs WR help)

Burton + 1.10 for Kittle
(Kittle owner is sorta contending but not great, also has Njoku, doesn't like ARob at all)
10-team standard, 18-man rosters (plus K/D + 1 IR + 2 TAXI)
1QB | 2RB | 2WR | 1TE | 1FLEX
2021: 8-6, 5th (AP: 76-50 / 60.3%, 3rd) ||| Runner-up
2022: 5-1, 2nd (AP: 47-7 / 87.0%, 1st)

QB: Hurts, Russ, Carr
RB: Chubb, Pierce, Swift, JRob, D'Ernest, Ford
WR: Diggs, Evans, GDavis, Nuk, Keenan, Hollywood, Mooney, CSamuel, Doubs
TE: Kelce, Dulcich, Fant
2023 Picks: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
2024 Picks: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th

Just offer TE the late 1st and ARob... that might be close

Not sure any of those get accepted, but I'd try them all.

Hmmm, I should clarify that these are offers I'm thinking of floating out tonight or tomorrow... I haven't received these offers sadly. But based on your response I take it that wouldn't be a very good offer on my part lol.

Hence the "choice of ARob/1.10" for that owner... I always like to give options when sending offers, cause 1) I never know what exactly people want, and 2) it makes it feel like I'm not trying to dump a specific player/pick on them that I don't want.

You kinda wrote that weird, I assume you mean just offer ARob + 1st? Idk if I'm desperate enough to offer that much for a TE, especially cause there's no way I'd still wanna keep both Gronk and Burton if I traded for one. I could always try for something like Burton + ARob + 1st and try to get back a 2nd with the TE, idk.

I meant Burton/Gronk, Arob and a late 1st. Think that's going to be what it take to get Kelce or Ertz. If not, you likely wont get them. If you do though it's a steal

I think that all 3 of your proposed offers will be declined. You will likely need to offer more to get one of the top TE's.

x2 These three TEs are all in the elite tier, and I would need a lot more than what you're offering to sell any of them. For example, if you sent me that offer for Ertz, I would tell you that I'd need Robinson + Burton + 1.10 to even consider it.

So, update on this. You guys were mostly right in that I wasn't offering enough.

Burton + choice of ARob/1.10 for Ertz
(Ertz owner is out of contention, tanking)

This one, the owner did tell me he thought the offer was ok, but also said he likes Ertz too much and is hopeful for his chances next year, so it would require two 1st's. In other words, Burton + late 2019 1st + late 2020 1st (maybe I could get a small return back, like 2020 2nd). Regardless, while I considered it, I didn't want to pay that much for a TE in a 10-team 1TE league, so I declined.

Burton + 1.10 for Kittle
(Kittle owner is sorta contending but not great, also has Njoku, doesn't like ARob at all)

I got laughed at by this owner, saying any deal for Kittle would need to involve Chubb, and to "offer something of value" next time. bleep this guy. Moving on.

Burton + ARob for Kelce
(Kelce owner is contending, no TE behind Kelce, but desperately needs WR help)

This owner... was oddly enough, the MOST interested after I initially assumed it would be the opposite. He said "if you threw in a 2020 2nd rounder I would be interested". Idk if he means he would definitely accept it at that point or not, but yeah.

Sadly, I don't think he realizes I don't have my 2020 2nd rounder lol. However I'm sure I could scrounge up something of similar value. So what do you guys think? Should I go for it? Feel good about Kelce pushing me to the ship and possibly being a top TE the next couple years after?

TLDR of my summary update above. Knowing my team in the sig below, would you rather:

1) Trade Burton + late 2019 1st + late 2020 1st for Ertz + future 2nd/3rd
2) Trade Burton + ARob + late 2020 2nd (or something of similar value) for Kelce
3) Hold still and ride it out with Gronk and Burton

Burton and 2 late 1sts is a steal for Ertz. The fact that you're trying to get back a 2nd is amusing

I originally said Burton / 1.10 / Arob would be what it needed for Ertz. Instead of Arob you throw him a late 1st 2 years away... no brainer

That being said I'd rather do the Kelce deal. As you would keep 2 1sts

Lol is that so. Maybe I should value TE's more highly. Or maybe I'm just afraid of getting burnt on a TE purchase after seeing Gronk fall off a cliff this year (though yes I know, Ertz is like the fountain of youth compared to Gronk's banged up body).

Sounds like you really like Ertz compared to Kelce. You're making me think I should go after him, even though I see Kelce as the cheaper buy (in other words, I'd rather have two late 1st's than ARob + a late 2nd, given my team build at the moment). Does the Golden Tate trade worry you about Ertz's recently massive target share moving forward this year or perhaps even next year? I don't think it's fair to judge anything based off of last week's game, obviously.

Both option 1 and option 2 are very, very cheap for Ertz and Kelce. I'd do either one ASAP.
