Rashaad Penny, buy low?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Rashaad Penny, buy low?

Postby Gator Sens » Mon Nov 05, 2018 10:52 am

I have a chance to get Penny for a 2019 2nd round pick (likely 5-8 range). Is he worth buying low with a 2nd round pick, or is holding the pick the smarter option?

I wouldn't pick Penny up off waivers if he was dropped. I'm certainly not giving up a 2nd for him. Dude looks lost in the NFL.

Hard to say he looks lost when we havent even seen him play meaningful snaps. I'm not saying hea going to be the greatest but cmon people are rostering guys like Ballage and John Kelly. Surely youd rather go with Penny

These comments are silly. Carson can't stay healthy. Mike Davis is nothing but a fill in. They spent a high draft pick on Penny. They are already starting to work him in (albeit slowly). Not every RB comes out of the gate firing. Give him some time to develop and then if he doesn't perform (not this year, next year), then we can talk about him being a dud. There are people who still roster Treadweel and Doctson after 3+ years and we are giving up on Penny in 8 games? This is dynasty right?

Anywho, Penny easily.

This is easily Penny. He was a top 5 rookie pick last year. He missed a decent amount of training camp and had a slow start to the year while Carson came on strong. Lets be honest, Mike Davis is a nobody who will be irrelevant next year. So it's going to come down to Carson or Penny in 2019 and the seahawks are actually running the ball extremely well. I was wrong that Penny would beat out carson in 2018 but I'd be surprised after a full offseason he doesn't take the job out right. They spent a 1st round pick on him and I think pretty much everyone can agree from a talent and prospect standpoint Penny>Carson. For a 2nd round pick this is a steal

Agreed, what did people say about Melvin Gordon as a rookie?

You have got to take Penny for no other reason than his expected value is significantly higher than that. I'd say a late first at this time. He could EASILY start for a couple weeks to end this season or start next and his trade stock will rise precipitously. You could trade him right away to someone else for more value than a mid to late 2nd if nothing else.

Picks:

2020 1, 2, 3, 4

Penny has been a healthy scratch multiple games this year. I wasn't that high on him prior to the draft. He wasn't really in anyone's top five RB's. The hype train didn't hit until the Seahawks took him in round one.

When you are being made a healthy scratch so guys like Mike Davis and Chris Carson can play...... that's bad.
