Duke Johnson for D'onta Foreman Trade

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Duke Johnson for D'onta Foreman Trade

Postby cm56776 » Thu May 24, 2018 5:56 am

Would you all trade Duke Johnson for D'onta Foreman and two 2019 3rds? I am struggling with RB depth and know Foreman is returning from a significant injury, but is his upside worth shipping Duke (who I believe could be a FA next year)?

My RB depth chart is as follows:

Jay Ajayi
I. Crowell
C.J. Anderson
Jordan Howard
Theo Riddick
Duke Johnson

(the rest are cuttable)

Thanks for any feedback!

If you can find a Foreman owner willing to give him to you, and add two picks, for Duke then I'd pull the trigger ASAP.

No absolutely not. Duke is the perfect RB3 for any team. His ceiling is a backend RB1 just like the the rest of the T Dannywoodheads of the world. Duke is going to be fantasy relevant for years to come and could easily end up in a dream spot next year like the patriots.

I'd keep Duke, but I'm also not a big Foreman fan.

I think it all depends on how well you think Foreman can bounce back from injury. I'd make the trade, but I'm not a medical expert either

I think it comes to swinging for the fences or keeping a steady RB3 to plug in.

I'm a swing for the fences kind of guy and you already have Riddick who is basically the same as Duke. I'm also hoping modern medicine improves the chances of Foreman coming back to form.

This is so interesting to me. Duke's 2018 was a lot closer to CMC (actually he was basically a better CMC) than he was to Riddick, yet CMC is considered a 2nd round startup pick and Duke is bench depth.

Duke for me.

Huge risk taking Foreman given very few RB's ever return to form after Achilles injuries. Duke gives you a much higher floor and potential to be a 2019 gem moving forward after he finally gets away from Cleveland. Could easily be the 2019 hot name to have like this years Jerick Mckinnon.

For your team, I'd take the risk in Foreman. Granted, he might never pan out and be fantasy-relevant, but he could also take over that backfield and be a starting RB for a good offense for the next few years. I think your roster construct needs that more than it needs another RB #3 / FLEX player.

I'm surprised more people aren't concerned about Duke's usage. Yes, he produced well last year - but it was buoyed by a crazy 93 targets & 74 receptions! With more capable QB play this year, the arrival of Landry & (return of) Gordon, and a more competitive team, I don't think Duke sees the same workload through the air. Not to mention that they spent decent Free Agent money to bring in Carlos Hyde, and spent heavy draft capital to bring in Nick Chubb. They aren't a huge threat to his receiving workload, but it reinforces the notion that they don't want to hand the ball off to Duke.

Duke was never going to get more than 100 carries at the most. Its his receptions that make him valuable and while I think his production dips a bit I think he will still easily be a top 20 back this year. The browns are in extension talks with him so they clearly have a plan for him and if they don't extend him he'll be a free agent to go elsewhere. Jarvis doesn't scare me all that much, Larry caught 112 passes playing out of the slot while DJ caught like 80 out of the backfield. The two can coexist just fine. I'd rather have a surefire top 20 rb with limited upside for the next 5 years vs a guy that could very well be a backup or handcuff by next year. If he doesn't come out this year producing well the Texans will absolutely address the position in the 2019 draft. I admit I'm a pretty big believer in Duke but damn the guy is DYNAMIC in open space. I'd almost rather see him with the ball than jarvis on short passes.

x2. It honestly baffles me....People just are writing Duke's season off as a 1 hit wonder and CMC as his floor....I don't get it. Duke looked superior to CMC or at least close to the same in open space to me personally. Dude is a top 5 receiving back in the league. He was PFF's #2 rated receiving back behind only Kamara, ahead of Gurley, Bell, CMC
