Defense & Kicker Advice

Postby My BallZach Ertz » Fri May 18, 2018 11:41 am

Going into my first startup dynasty draft this weekend with 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 FLEX, 1 K, 1 DEF and 20 bench spots. How many defenses and kickers would you recommend drafting in a startup? And also what round would you start thinking about drafting defenses and kickers? Thanks

I personally like having options at DEF, so I would grab a top tier d in a late-mid round and take 1 or 2 more late if you are not overally interested in any available players in the round. Kicker, I would grab late and you can always get a backup off waivers.

Is this 12 team?

I have the same attitude as I do in redraft - take a team defense late, and a kicker later. You don't need more than one of each in the draft.

We've got 20 roster spots and I generally carry one of each. I wouldn't draft either position early though. I look at it much like meineymoe in that you take them late and play the waiver wire for BYE's and in case of injury.

Though I will admit to having cut an end of bench stash for a kicker during Tucker's BYE weeks for league in sig. Once you've got an elite kicker I think that's an asset worth holding onto (depending on league scoring). Defensive dominance tends to change more year-to-year so I don't worry about trying to get a "stud" option at that position.

I do my best to get a top tier kicker so you don’t need to worry about matchups and only need 1 kicker

I always like to carry two Ds if possible to play the matchups.

i wouldn't invest heavily on a kicker...many teams will drop kickers to pick up the hottest thing on the ww....i ended up with gostkowski eventually on a team..
as for Defense, they don't tend to live up to previous year, but i wouldn't be the last to draft one either...it really depends on your scoring system.. i think you will have to draft Jax too soon for my comfort... ravens, vikings, eagles, panthers are cheaper

I wouldn't draft any. If you want to draft a Defense & Kicker you want to keep all season, try not to have them on the same bye week as you'll have to free up two roster spots in the same week to field a team. With 20 spots that may be a rookie you wanted to stash for the season.
99 problems but your 10 team league ain't one!

With kicker, I take the best kicker in the FA which I think the offense will be better but not to great just enough to get to the 20-30 to try and get maximum points, its hard to predict but that's how I approach it.

Defense when the season starts I roster 2 for the bye week so I don't have to drop my main one.

I never spend a high pick regardless. Streaming dst based on weekly matchups has worked well for me. And if you find the ‘17 Jags by accident, bonus.

this, if you can...but in my league, it is quite difficult to stream Ds...not many on the ww
