Not to get off topic, but how does one trade an early or late round pick in the middle of the season? In our league, draft picks for 2018 are determined your 2017 finish. And it is very early in the year to make an accurate guess on your trade-partners projected finish in the standings.
Do other leagues do it differently?

generally in dynasty you know what each team has to offer so you can project if they have a squad that can compete or not. so if one team is clearly lacking, you would project their 1st to be early. if they are stacked you project it to be late, nothing more than that
