Hurns just a roster clogger?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Hurns just a roster clogger?

Postby koalabear » Wed Sep 06, 2017 3:55 am

He seems like he's way down the pecking order in Jacksonville now and probably has little or no dynasty value. Was hoping he might be traded but that didn't materialise.

Would you drop him to pick up one of Tarik Cohen, Matt Breida or Kerwynn Williams?

No, he isn't a roster clogger. He was hurt all last year and is still the WR2 in that offense, albeit their qb sucks

I view him as a roster clogger. The news of him falling behind Dede Westbrook & Keenan Cole, along with Jags attempts to trade him leaves me to believe they don't see a future for him. He may have an occasional good game, which if you parlay it right and have a believer in your league could allow you to flip him, but if there's a target on waivers I wouldn't hesitate depending on the depth of your league.

Hurns is owed quite a bit of money, but none of it is guaranteed after this season. It's squarely on the cutting block for the Jags.

Bortles is his QB, Coughlin is pulling the GM strings, and Doug Marrone has installed a run heavy offense. He does not have a ton of value this year. That being said, he might find himself in a better situation, next year.

I do not see Hurns starting for you unless things go really badly for your team (injuries). When looking at end of bench stashes, it is all about lottery ticket status. Your RBs are thin and you could potentially benefit from having both Brieda and Cohen on the end of your bench.

Maybe this, but I wouldn't give up on Hurns that quickly.

Wouldn't expect much of anything this year but he could be a surprise #2 on a team next year. Buffalo, Carolina, NYJ......you never know.

Agree with Space Cowboy that he could land somewhere else next year; maybe even this year with the late trades we've already seen. If he's fallen out of favor for "better" talent (guys the GM likes as his guys) then I'd say it's more "will" and less "could" end up somewhere else.

I think you can definitely consider him a roster clogger but I wouldn't be enticed to move on for those options.

Yes he is a roster clogger. He would be the 4th option for targets right now. He's behind: Robinson, Lee, and Westbrook. Matt Breida gives you more potential upside at a much thinner position. Not to mention his offense while bad, will pound the ball.

Good points but personally I'd like to see Breida in game action before dumping a 1,000 yard WR.

I think a lot goes to your team needs as well. If you are weak at RB, keeping Breida makes even more sense. Hurns has ZERO trade value in most formats right now and is moving in the wrong direction when it comes to targets/depth chart. I believe the Jags also tried to trade him the last few months. If he was traded to a team with more targets for him, this would be a different argument.

Is Hurns really even the #2 WR for JAX now? According to their depth chart, he is 3rd string behind ARob and Lee; and then Cole and Dede. I don't expect much from him as the history of sustained success for undrafted guys isn't very impressive.

Yes. Traded him at the start of last season. He's a WR that JAX paid way too much money for and only has fantasy relevance in super deep leagues.

He is the epitome of roster clogger. His career arch will mirror Michael Clayton's, one very good season and then fade away. I wouldn't waste a roster spot on him in hopes he changes teams next year. If he can't beat out M Lee in Jacksonville, then it's over for him. You can easily find similar production on waiver wire when/if you need bye week filler.
