Gurley vs. Top 4 Rookie RBs

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Gurley vs. Top 4 Rookie RBs

Postby Slackalacker » Wed Aug 23, 2017 10:54 pm

Who do you value more: Gurley, or Mixon/CMC/Cook?

I currently hold picks 1.1 and 1.5 in my 2nd year dynasty league (also picks 2.4/2.6/3.7) I'm at a rough spot, as I'm split between contending and building up (drafted fairly young, a few studs in their mid/late prime and an overall lack of productive depth)

I intend on taking Fournette at 1 and have heard the likes of Davis or CMC falling to me at 5. Would you consider moving Gurley for either picks 1.2 or 1.4 (both lack starting RBs and have shown high interest in Gurley at these spots) or stay pat with a Gurley since he is already a young bellcow and hope he bounces back?

Team is in sig.

I'd go-

Mixon
CMC

Gurley

Cook

I'm not sure the overall talent difference between Gurley and CMC and Mixon, but I know a bad year out of Gurley and his value will plummet and the other two have some built in forgiveness to their performance for the 1st year. Then you can reassess and decide whether to keep them or move them. I do believe I've seen enough to think they are both better than Gurley. I'm afraid Gurley's vision and agility aren't what we were hoping but that's just me.

Cook is just overrated in my opinion. He will probably be given even more leeway than the other two with excuses about the Minnesota Oline, Bradford, Murray and McKinnon stealing touches or what have you.

Would be nice to know the starting requirements. From what you have already said, your starters are looking like:

Brady
Gurley, Howard, Fournette
Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Lockett???
Austin Hooper

You are looking solid at the starting slots for RB. I'd keep Gurley as he is clearly going to get the playing time in LA. We should make very few judgements of the Rams' players from last year, that team became totally dysfunctional more because of the coaches than the players.

Corey Davis would be a big boost to your roster. If he doesn't fall to 1.05, then maybe Mike Williams will drop into your lap in the second ... or you could move up a little to secure him.

Sorry about that

It's 1QB 2RB 2WR 1TE and 1RB/WR/TE

Right now my weakest link is in fact my flex, the hope would be Davis but I intend on taking Williams if Davis is gone at 5. A few people in my league may end up taking some free agents and I have hope that suitable Wzr options may fall to me at 2.4/2.6 as well

For me, it's:

Mixon
Gurley
Everyone else.

If you're not as high on Mixon as I am, then I would take Gurley over everyone. And even I (who has Mixon as his #1 -- by far) would be torn between the two. Gurley has as much talent as any other back (maybe except Mixon) and has proven it.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll end up sticking with Gurley. I having a feeling the rams offense may see a significant increase in their passing game which hopefully will result in Gurley bouncing back.

I still see Gurley securely ahead of all the rookies as he has proven he can do it at the NFL level. As for the rookies I am a big CMC fan and tend to agree with the previous post that once trouble finds you it is never far away. That being said Mixon is very talented but 1 more incident and I think he sees a suspension.

It's definitely Gurley first until proven otherwise. The top 4 rookie RBs can very well leapfrog Gurley by start of next season. Mixon's past is blown out of proportion as nothing else serious has been reported since that incident in 2014. I'd be more concerned with Zeke than Mixon. All 4 RBs are extremely talented.

I just don't think Gurley has proven much at the NFL level. After his 1st 4 games he has rushed for 3.4(or 3.6) yards per carry. Blame it on Fisher for some it, I do. But I don't see the vision, and certainly not the lateral movement I'd hope for in a RB. He basically gave u.p last year as well, something RB's like MJD would never do. Even in the horrid years of JAX(have they always been horrid?) , with Blaine Gabbert and no chances of winning, he always seemed to believe he could put the team on his shoulders and carry them to a win.

I'm trying to sell Gurley but can't find a buyer for his current value. I do think he is in a position to have an okay season, just don't believe long term in him like some do.

Steve, What were you looking for value wise as a Gurley owner? And curious, as to what any non-owners would spend draft pick wise.

I've tried some combo stuff where I get Sammy and a diffrent back like Tevin Coleman or Duke Johnson for Gurley and Tyrell Williams. I've offered him for Fournette even since his injury, offered him for Gordon, offered him, back to the original owner for CMC or Cook+ and no. Keenan plus a 1st, Gurley plust a 1st for Amari, Gurley for Luck, Gurley plust 2 1sts for Zeke, Gurley plust 2 1sts for DJ, Gurley plust a 1st for Bell. Gurley for 2 1sts and Donta Foreman. Not getting any counters back. Guess his value is lower than I thought.

People still clinging to the ghost of Gurley's past. I'd rather have Fournette than Gurley easily. If you're one of those guys that likes Mixon more than LF (I don't understand you) then you have to have both of those guys above Gurley. After that I'm fine with any ordering of Gurley/CMC/Davis
