Bidding war for DJ? Send the house?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Bidding war for DJ? Send the house?

Postby gerg4747 » Thu Aug 17, 2017 11:56 am

Myself and another owner have gotten into a bidding war with each other, trying to get DJ from the DJ owner.

The DJ owner is considering both offers but as I think about it, I'm not sure if I should be sending all these pieces.

Current offer
Send: Hopkins, Miller, Crowder, 18 1st, 19 1st
Get: DJ

Obviously DJ is a top asset, but I think Hopkins could return to form. This worth it assuming he accepts?

Not to me...but it isn't my team! Yeah, DJ is probably the best fantasy asset out there right now. But he's still an RB. And last time I checked their shelf life for stardom isn't too long, 5-6 years at best maybe? I would view your team as a contender for at least the next 2-3 years without this trade.

I'd stand pat if I were you. DJ is a stud, but last year was an historic (and dare I say outlier) season for him.

Giving up pieces to bag studs normally gives me a boner, but that is even too good of pieces for me

Look at your starting lineup before and after the trade. Ask yourself if its worth it to go from team A to team B for 2 1sts plus Crowder

You upgrade Miller to DJ, but Lose Hopkins. Since you have Sammy, it may actually work for you, but not at 2 1sts and Crowder

Gonna go against popular opinion here and say I'd prob do this. I don't like Foreman breathing down Miller's neck to start with. Miller last year was given the bigger work load every owner kept hoping for and really didn't do a whole lot to impress. Just not 100% sold on him keeping that job long term as Foreman is very intriguing. I also think Crowder is good, but replaceable and while Nuk may return to his '15 form, who cares, you have to give to get! Your lineup requirements are thin enough that i think you could still compete for the 'ship.
Nuk = 1st
Miller = 2nd?
Crowder = 4th
2018 & 2019 1st rounders (which should be late).

This doesn't seem too bad to me for a guy who's been the runner up two straight years. I think DJ could put you over the top and winning championships is the goal of FF. Your window is wide open with OBJ, A.B., Brees, etc. I think it may be time to pounce.

I will add this, I'd try to do the deal with Sammy instead of Nuk, though admittedly this may fall short? I'd also try to squeeze a 2nd in '18 OR '19 out of the DJ owner. Doesn't hurt to try.

Thanks for the advice guys. He ended up going with the other offer, but it's probably better off.

Deal ended up being:

DJ and Kelce for MT, 1.4, 1.7, 1.8, Riddick, Delanie.

Crazy stuff.

Good grief...DJ and Kelce for Hopkins AND three firsts? THREE? Wow.

That would actually make me root against him as a player, and from what I hear he's a model character (unlike the stud back in my lineup...oy).

You're better off, there's only a few stud running backs no reason to gut your team for one. Sometimes you need to step back and say to yourself "I can live without so and so"
