Graham vs. Gronk

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Graham vs. Gronk

Postby nightmarion » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:15 am

So currently I have Gronk signed for 2 years at $4. Jimmy Graham was just dropped by another owner, I could pick him up at $2 for 1-6 years. I would need to drop Gronk to make this happen, or drop Folk and run with one K (16 team league, so its not like I can just play the WW for K's as they are all rostered). Gronk is my backup behind Gonzo. So will Graham contribute this season? Is his future upside greater then Gronks in your opinion? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated....Thanks in advance
16 team league, non-PPR standard scoring plus bonuses. $200 cap

I'd hang on to Gronk unless you have cap issues. Graham seems like much more of a project...
Don’t be sad that it’s over. Smile because it happened.

I like Graham over Gronkowski long-term, but I'm not expecting him to contribute at all this year. If teams really hoard the kickers, I'd just take the bye week hit and roster both. They're each far more valuable than a second kicker.

Gronk > Graham right now
Graham > Gronk 2012 plus
Graham, Gronk >>>> over 2nd K forever

I am leaning that way.... I can sign him at league mininmum for up to 6 years. Is he a guy to lock up long term? Or is he still more of a flier at this point?

I don't think he's a guy to lock up long-term. But I think that way about most TEs. Graham would be the one, if either, since he didn't have back surgery and miss a year. you wouldn't want contract years/salary tied up in a TE on a team with another young, high-upside guy like Hernandez, but you also wouldn't want to let him get away at the expense of a second kicker.

I signed Gronk for two years, I drafted him, so his contract would have gotten too sizeable for an unproven rookie if I signed him for 3+ years. Grahm would be minimum for as many years as I choose.

I would probably sign Graham at that minimum for three years, maybe even four ( nothing/not much this year; TE2 next year and very possibly the starter by 2012, but that's a long time to wait for a TE)... again, at the expense of a second kicker...
