First Dynasty Startup: How'd I Do?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

First Dynasty Startup: How'd I Do?

Postby Chwf3rd » Wed Jul 12, 2017 3:57 pm

12 team PPR with 21 player rosters that starts: QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/TE/Flex/DST.

1.11: AJ Green, WR
2.02: TY Hilton, WR
**Trade 3.11 + 4.02 + 8.02 for 3.06 + 4.07 + 8.07**
3.06: Rob Gronkowski, TE
4.07: Lamar Miller, RB
5.11: Carlos Hyde, RB
6.02: Ameer Abdullah, RB
7.11: Kelvin Benjamin, WR
8.07: John Ross, WR
**Trade 9.11 + 11.11 + 13.11 for 10.09 + 10.11 + 12.11**
10.02: Doug Martin, RB
10.09: David Njoku, TE
10.11: DeSean Jackson, WR
12.02: Matthew Stafford, QB
12.11: Tyler Lockett, WR
**Trade 14.02 + 16.02 + 17.11 for 14.11 + 15.02 + 17.02**
14.11: Carlos Henderson, WR
15.02: Jonathan Stewart, RB
15.11: Ryan Tannehill, QB
17.02: Gerald Everett, TE
18.02: Jalen Richard, RB
19.11: Chris Thompson, RB
20.02: Rams DST
21.11: Jared Goff, QB

QB: Matthew Stafford, Ryan Tannehill, Jared Goff
RB: Lamar Miller, Carlos Hyde, Ameer Abdullah, Doug Martin, Jonathan Stewart, Jalen Richard, Chris Thompson
WR: AJ Green, TY Hilton, Kelvin Benjamin, John Ross, DeSean Jackson, Tyler Lockett, Carlos Henderson
TE: Rob Gronkowski, David Njoku, Gerald Everett
DST: Rams

I'm not elated with my team but I think I should be competitive the next 2 or 3 years as long as a few of the RBs hit and Gronk stays reasonably healthy. My biggest regret is not realizing how quickly WRs come off the board and how late quality RBs are available. If I had a do-over I would swap out Abdullah for Crabtree who went a few picks afterwards.

Favorite Pick: John Ross @ 8.07 and David Njoku @ 10.09. Ross generally goes at least 3 rounds after Mike Williams in startups and I don't see a large difference between the players. I loved the value I got with Njoku and at the very least he'll be a great trade chip in the next few years.

Least Favorite Pick: Ameer Abdullah I love Abdullah as a player but by grabbing him right after I took Gronk and Hyde I left my WRs too weak.

Looks like a pretty solid start-up. I agree that you should be competitive without being able to see the rest of the teams in your league.

I like that you have some solid depth in your RB core. If Martin bounces back and regains some value I might look to move one of them to add to your WR depth, possibly Hyde for Crabtree or Tate(personal favourite of mine as a WR 3/4). Or take a chance on a guy like Jordan Mathews who might find some comfort not being stretched out as his teams( or fantasy) WR1

I liked your early picks, but Hyde and Abdullah seemed reaches to me. Would have loved it if you had gone WR there instead. Loved Martin in the 10th.

Overall solid for a snake startup. Good work!

I agree with this- However, I think it's more important to have solid WR's in Dynasty. So solid work!

Very nice. I like that you waited on RB and still came out with some good upside. Martin could always bounce back and Miller should have a pretty solid season in PPR.

And that long wait to take a QB was a great strategy, Stafford in the 12th round is great value.

This is about as good a team as you're gonna get in a startup, without having some great luck. Good job
